Hi everyone  -  I have been lurking for a while (although I think that I have posted responses to some), and I want to say that I feel a kinship - a sisterhood - to so many of you  (sorry to the men reading this).
I am a 57 year old college teacher living   in southwestern Ontario near the Windsor/Detroit border.  I'm divorced with no human kids - I do have two big lugs, both German shepherds,  who let me live with them.  They are Creena (Irish for "my heart") and Derwood Kirby  -  remember Derwood Kirby??  -  well my dog looks just like him.
I am a so-called lightweight (makes me laugh to write that) and I so want to have wls.  I am waiting on our provincial provider of health insurance to give the ok, and I will be ready to go to the losers bench!
This forum is a warm fuzzy place for me to come because you all (if I say y'all, maybe I can be an honourary American??) seem to be so supportive of  each other.  I don't get the same vibes from the other forums.
I think that I will stick around.  Thank you so much for being here.  Margaret

Welcome, Margaret!

OFF is a wonderful place, full of caring, non-judgmental people.

I haven't thought about Derwood Kirby for a long, long time!

Hi Jean  Thanks for the welcome.
I hadn't thought of Derwood Kirby in a long time, either, but he lives on (at least in name) in my house.  The dog that I adopted came with the name "Ranger", which was not a name I would have chosen.  I tried to come up with a name and couldn't.  One day while I was sitting where I am right now, my dog, who stares adoringly at me, looked up at me and I saw Derwood Kirby's face!   I have no idea how I have retained Mr. Kirby's name let alone his face for all of this time, but I did.  And so, my big lug of a German shepherd is named Derwood Kirby  -  I love to hear his name called at the vet's  -  it always cracks me up.  (no offense meant to Mr. Kirby's memory)

Welcome Margaret!  I am a newbie to this forum as well, but so far, I like it here just fine!   I feel very comfortable here, not to mention how welcoming everyone has been to me.  I appreciate the vibe and everyone's kindness.

I love the Derwood Kirby name for your dog!!  I think animals with people names are the best!  I can see how it could crack you up at the vet.  I would be giggling too!!  I used to have a friend whose dog was named "Richard".  I thought that was such a hoot!

Glad you are here!

Hi Thanks for the welcome.  I would love to be at the vet's when the tech calls out "Richard" and a dog stands up!!!

Hi Margaret,  I'm a rookie here too and also a lightweight.  Does that mean we are only slightly OFF people?
Your dog DOES look like Derwood Kirby.  Welcome.
