It ain't brain surgery...

Hi everyone....  My group of GalPals from this site four years ago included Patti D, PatLouise, Liz Brown, WindyPat, MaryAnn, Jeannie G and a bunch of other fun gals.... and we actually got together to meet a few times... I remember that we used to constantly say to each other, while discussing food follies, temptations, barfaramas, challenges, lessons, fantasies, failures and just plain food adventures, "It was STOMACH surgery, not BRAIN surgery!!"

Tonight I was again made VERY aware of how hard my food issues work to control me... I had a pretty good laugh at myself actually once I realized what I had done.

I fixed a great dinner for us... grilled wildcaught salmon, penne pasta with olive oil and herbed goats cheese, homemade three bean salad from freshly picked beans, and a wonderful homegrown garden salad with a little bit of grilled chicken on top.  All good choices and I gave David great big servings of everything... he worked hard all day and hadn't eaten much.  I planned on eating as I always do, a little bit of everything.  I still do use my little dishes which I keep in my little cupboard...  So I gave myself a little dish of grean bean salad, then I put about 4 of Salmon and a half cup of pasta on a small platter, then I took some of the fresh tomatos/cukes/sweet onion and avocado from the salad in another small bowl.   It was only when I actually tried to pick up all of these dishes that I saw what I had done. All good choices but any ONE of those items should have been my meal (except the pasta of course).... but I had given myself FOUR of them!  There was ALOT of food on all of those little dishes.  It would have been alot of food on a full sized dinner plate!! LOL

I pointed it out to David and he looked at that food on the TV tray (Seatle Seahawks preseason game... lol) and he knew trouble when he saw it and said, "Don't eat all that".  He knows I'd be moaning and groaning....

So... I started with the Salmon and did eat the 1/2 cup of pasta then... because... well because, it's PASTA!!!   Later I picked the chicken out of the salad and took a few bites of the veggies.  I plan on snacking on the rest of the salads later if I get hungry before bed.  I guess I'll still end up eating all of that food, but over four or five hours....  I just think it's so funny that I DID use little dishes... I just used THREE of them....

And the funny part is... when stuff like that happens, besides our partners, it's hard to find people who will understand the ironies of our post surgical lives so I thought of all of you.... actually, thought of Patti D, PatLouise, Liz Brown, WindyPat, MaryAnn, Jeannie G and a bunch of other fun gals....  It wasn't brain surgery.... LOL!  Luv yall...
Best wishes, Nancy

Hey Jeannie B... sorry but I read your posts after I wrote and sent this.  I don't want to actually send you a message directly in case that Butthead might read your messages... but I know if you see my pic and post, you will read it and read this....

You can always come to the farm for a visit if you need to put some miles between you and him... it's pretty secluded here... and I always have work.... or you can send me an email with your address so that I can mail you a cheery card... and my mom taught me that you don't ever send a card without one crisp bill in it, no matter how small it might have to be.... anyway, {{{hugs}}} and as Whoopi pantomimed  to Oprah when they ran into each other in the general store in Color Purple.... "chin up"....
Best wishes, Nancy

LOLOL - It's been 5 years + and I will pull this same stunt now and again!!  It sure ain't brain surgery - though the physical results of surviving the last 5 years have achieved something akin to brain surgery - a complete personality flip for the better - I still forget I'm subject to severe hiccups when my plate gets too full, literally.

Good to see you - just stopped in on a boring Sunday morning to see what's up and saw YOU!!!  What are the chances of that?

Life is good - better than good, in fact better than I could have designed it had I been in charge.  So sorry to read of the trials and lessons of others, but how else do we learn?  I hate it but it's true - That which doesn't kill us only serves to make us stronger (and hopefully smarter).

Hugs and a big fat smooch,
Jeannie G

NEVER thought my little hooked line would reel in such a BIG FISH!!!! lol... I told Monica in another post that.... SHEESH!!! Go away for a few or fourteen months and it all goes to SHYTT around here!!! Jeannie B's on the run, Monica has been sick, and Deb's trying to outrun ANOTHER hurricane!!!! At least Jeannie G is still sunny and transcendent.... It is really nice to touch base with everyone. I see Gala's going for yet a better job. What is that? About 17 in five years? Each one better than the last. What's that show with Donald Trump? I expect to see her on that someday... her having worked her way up the ladder, owning her own bus company and all.... lol. Life is still good with us too. We went to Hawaii for seven weeks last winter while the farm was pretty much shut down... we had people to feed and keep the house warm and the gardens watered and we went over and sold goat's cheese at the Hilo Farmers Market, across the road from Hilo Bay for all of January and most of February. Rented a house on a cliff overlooking the Hamakua Coast with NO neighbors... pretty cool. Not this year, sigh. I need a new septic tank instead of vacations this year. Not even a "float em and bloat em" three day cruise to Ensenada this year... lol Nice to hear from you.
Best wishes, Nancy
