More savory meals after surgery?

I was reading Nancy's post about the 3 small plate meal she had last nite (hehehe) and it brought me to a question.  At my support group mtg on Thurs nite, some of the folks discussed that since surgery, they are preparing more luscious meals than they did pre-surgery.  it seems like they are buying finer cuts of meats, preparing smaller but more creative dishes.  I think the point was that they are enjoying the food more because they eat slower and savor it as opposed to basically inhaling it, so it is worth it to spend more time and money on the meal and preparation.  I hate to cook, but wondered if you found that to be true, or if you began to enjoy cooking more after surgery.  BTW, Nancy, your meal sounded wonderful!

That IS good to know...my hubby could stand to lose a few himself, and I hope that becomes a by-product of my surgery.  I tended to think he would lose something since I hope to be eating off his plate instead of ordering my own, when we go out.  The only problem is, I probably won't want to eat anything he would want to order......but maybe I can change his choices a bit?

Hi Nancy......I have found that I only buy the better quality meats, veggies, seafood etc.. I too think I enjoy the food more. We don't eat much so I want quality. I love to cook but live alone so I cook and freeze alot!!

You don't eat as much so you can afford better dining, whether at home or out.

I agree....do you choose appetizers instead of main courses?

I choose both or just main. Remember, I am 8 years post op so what I do is a bit different than those early out.

I love to cook so I go for the better quality foods and prepare them.  I do have left overs and freeze a lot.  I buy smaller quantities and good quality.  Leaner meats, different fruits & veggies some are pricier but I don't need as much.  Better quality cheeses too.  I eat slower and taste the food better but there are some foods I can no longer tolerate.  Eggs and fish are really hard for me to get down anymore.  I miss tuna fish but can't handle the fish oil...  expect some changes in your eating habits and likes vs dislikes.  You will settle into your own eating style too.  Best Wishes .....  Millie

Yes, I have definitely heard that our tastes change, and some things are not as easily tolerated as before...I hope cheese and chocolate become that way for me...hahaha!!  I adore them both!  But I am fine with whatever happens to my taste.  I am in this for the long haul, and have not chosen this path lightly.  I know there are some people opting for surgery who have no intention of changing their eating habits...I am not one of those.  Thanks Millie!
