Whats new on Sat.
Hi Barb and my OFF family:
Barb, I hear ya about the hot flashes ... I nipped those in the bud right away and got hormone patches. I started flashing a year after WLS ... the worst time was when I took my mom to this family picnic in Iowa in August; the weather was hot, we had to share a bed (not just a room, but a double bed!), which I could never have done before WLS but at the time I think I was down to 219 or something ... anyway, I was flashing so badly and couldn't sleep. Had to drive back the next day after the picnic, got back to Chicago at 10 p.m. and then had to drive back to Chicago at 4 a.m. so I could go back to work the next evening. That day, I called my gyne and got an appointment. I've been on the patches ever since. They are lifesavers for me. It wasn't just the flashes, but a lot of stuff.
Sorry to hear about your daughter; hope all is OK. I have known two people with ovarian cancer ... one is my aunt, who had it at age 60, they removed a grapefruit sized tumor (she kept telling the male doc something was wrong, but he said she was a hysterical female!) ... Aunt Bernice turned 90 this year, so all went well with that, although she has lots of other issues now and really wants to die now (she's in a lot of pain ... I know where I get it from! She falls a lot, she has numerous aches and pains from numerous falls and surgeries to fix things. Poor woman! I love her dearly, she's a feisty one.) The other is my friend Margie, and I think she was diagnosed in '93 or '94 ... doc did an ultrasound on some cysts, she went home and had some pain and had to be rushed to the hospital that night because the cysts were actually tumors and something ruptured that day. She's still alive, too; had a kidney transplant a few years ago. So there are happy endings.
I'm so tired today, so happy I have nowhere to go. I stripped the bed and changed the sheets and comforter; the comforter is in the dryer for its first cycle (it usually takes 2-3 cycles to get it dry.) I'm just enjoying my coffee and relaxing; I plan to do some baking maybe to finish up the grated zucchini in the fridge and try a new recipe out of my gastric bypass cookbook called fruit and fiber muffins ... I'll post the recipe if they're any good. I'm also going to make spaghetti sometime this weekend, either today or tomorrow; depends on how long I want to stand today. Knee, of course, is hurting ... head was hurting too for a while this morning, which to me means rain somewhere in the forecast (although the weather forecast isn't calling for it ... my body sense it).
Other than that, just hanging around, taking a gas holiday ... watching baseball ... hope Debbie and the folks in the gulf are OK and out of harm's way from Gustav. Have a good weekend.

Hello everyone.....hope you all have a fun labor day weekend.....I have no plans for now.....just relaxing and reading.
Went to Gr. Rapids yesterday for my one year checkup.
Had two great sessions, one with the dietician and one with the behaviorist......lots of good information that I need to put to use. The P.A. was my favorite, Matt, and we had a long talk.....he was happy with my body fat totals
and my bloodwork, the weight loss -- well he thinks I am getting too many fat calories and I need to drop below 30 gm. per day.....I agree with him, so today I am charting
yet another item in my food journal -- fat grams. Anyway he gave me a big hug when I left and told me not to worry I would get to my goal by following the rules and paying attention to food selections.....what a great guy, I really like his attitude and his hugs!!!
My sis and I decided we wanted to take a different way home so we went by way of Battle Creek......we stopped at the mall so I could try on jeans.....found out what size I need, but didn't buy any because they didn't have the color I wanted either at Sears or Macy's. Got home about 6:15 -- whew it was a long day -- drove over 230 miles altogether. I ate some supper, watched TV for a bit and went to bed at 8:30.....I was beat!
Today I made a quick trip to Wal Mart to get my new glasses fixed - a screw fell out already.....I wasn't a happy camper about that....I've only had them 4 days! Told the tech I wasn't about to come back every whip stitch to get them fixed.....she knew I wasn't happy!!
Otherwise, I am thinking maybe Floyd and Brenda will call or stop by, but I haven't heard anything from them.
Later folks,
Pat R.
