Another lurker leaves the shadows
CAra-glad you are here and getting your band in Sept. I too am 51 and was banded on 1/28 and I am officially 51 lbs lighter and loving every minute of it. I didn't get RNY because I wasn't a candidate but the band was OK. Maybe a little slower weight loss than RNY but thats OK too. We each have our reasons for the different surgeries but they are all great and give us a 2nd chance at life. The band "fills" will be a little scary the first time but then you will see that they are a breeze and no big deal. You will have lots of questions about your band and your aftercare and you can get your answers here on this forum. There are lots of us 0ver 50 bandsters out there and we will help you. Good luck on the surgery and ask me any questions you want.

Thanks Teanne. Congrats on your successes! I have spent a lot of time on the RI board with my friends there who have had both the RNY and Band...and I also attend the support group monthly at the hospital where I will be having the surgery. I am not scared, really, of either having the surgery or the fills. I trust my doctor implicitly...he is wonderful. Of course, I am somewhat nervous, but I feel like I am in such good hands, and I also know they will give great drugs to help me get through those nerves, but I appreciate hearing that your experience has been a good one. Never can get enough support and good wishes, so thanks for those!!
