HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS

Deb,
I can remember, when we were growing up, we ate good during and after a hurricane.  Mom and Maw Maw had to cook out of the freezer because we had no electricity.  (I think that's why so many people in Louisiana have gas stoves)  It was a treat to  have shrimp stew and fried shrimp the same night.  Or, we ate seafood platter's at a restaurant, not at home, but after a hurricane we did.  We were also thrilled because we didn't have to take a bath.  We filled the bathtub with water to flush the toilet.  We didn't have flash lights, I can remember MawMaw using kerosene lamps.  Plus, back then there was no FEMA.  If your house got messed up, it got messed up.  You lived with relatives until your house was fixed.  Of course, they didn't ask for your 1st born to repair your home.  Heck, the people up North didn't even know hurricanes existed until Andrew hit Florida and Louisiana.   ......and I could go on and on.  I will keep yall in my prayers, right alongside our families.  God Speed.

Hugs,   Peggy

Now that brings back memories of hurricanes Hilda and Betsy, cooking and eating the first thing you could grab from the freezer!

My oldest daughter called me last week.  She moved to St. Petersburg, FL last year and Fay was her first hurricane she had to go through without Mommy and Daddy to take care of the necessities.  So she called to tell me to check her list and make sure she had everything.  (She had spent the last 8 yrs. in Vermont).  It just seemed strange that one one my daughters was asking me what to do.  Darn, I keep forgetting their all grown up.

Hugs,   Peggy

I love it!!  Living about 35 miles inland from the south facing beaches in Southeastern NC I have rode out my share of hurricanes.  The one I will never forget is of course Hazel! I was only 3 years old when she came through but I do remember bits and pieces.  Water running in the front door and out the back about 3-4 inches deep.

I pray you all with be safe and sound not matter where this one goes.

I enjoyed your post Debbie, but I am still keeping you and George in my thoughts and most assuredly in my prayers. May God keep you both in the circle of His lobing and peaceful arms. Love you, dear sister. Please stay safe.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.
