stupid question??

I have a sort of stupid question.  What happens when you reach your goal weight and the band remains in place and filled.  Will I continue to lose weight or does the body adjust and you just maintain at that weight.  I am at my "sweet spot" and the weight seems to be coming off great.  I have lost 50 lbs and have 20 more to go.  Loosing about 1 lb a week with eating right (except my daily quota of chocolate) and exercise.  Just wondering if the weight loss will stop or will I need a slight unfill?  Never thought I'd ever have to ask this sort of question.

Teanne,
that is an important question, not stupid at all. The information I have learned from my lap-band support group members is that you will need fills for life. (I had RNY so can't speak from personal experience) Finding the sweet spot seems to make their lives easier. That is where they all stirve to be.

Once you reach goal you will probably need to tweak your menu slightly. None of them have had trouble with losing too much weight. Regain is the bigger problem for both the lap-band AND RNY groups. Talk to your Dietician or maybe one of the bandsters here can help.

Hi Teanne,  I've just had my band 4 months now and haven't reached my sweet spot.  I do know that by following the lap band forum they say you will have your band till you die.  I would imagine that once you reach your goal,  your NUT will give you a game plan to help you maintain your weight and not keep losing.  You'll probably be able to up your carbs, since those seem to be everyone's enemy.   If you go over to the lap band forum and post your question, they can help you.   Good Luck,

Hugs,   Peggy

Teanne,

When you want to stop losing weight, you will need to work with your nutritionist on adding calories to your eating plan to maintain your weight.  If necessary, you can have some fill taken out of your band.

I have found that as I lose weight, my band loosens because the fat around my stomach shrinks, so I need more fill.  Depending on how I'm doing with food when I reach my goal weight, I will probably leave the fill level as is.

The saline can evaporate over time, so you might need another fill after you reach your goal, but not necessarily.

Thanks for the info.  I will just wait and see what happens and then when I am within a few lbs of goal I will talk to the nutritionist and MD and see what they want me to do.  Thanks again.
