Need profile picture help

I have a friend who just joined OH, and he needs help putting his profile pic on,,,his screen name is hoosierdaddy. Could someone message him and tell him what to do? He has posted other pics but cant figure out the avatar...unfortunately I had someone else do mine, and cant remember how either!

If anyone wants to post how to do this, that would be wonderful.  I have a lot of pix that I tried to put in, but it keeps telling me it has to be jpg or gif.  How do I do that or know ahead of time that it's that type of file?  Thanks
