For Fun: WLS by the Pound
My insurance company was billed a total of $54,907.53 for my band surgery. That includes a biopsy of a cyst on my liver, and placement and removal of a vena cava filter. My surgery was last September and some of that claim is still pending, so I don't know what the actual pay-out on it will be. But if you go by the $54,907.53, my weight loss has cost $686.34 per pound so far!
Thank the Lord for good insurance coverage!
How much did your WLS cost per pound?

That is interesting Jean, on the home page there is an ad for $12,000 for lap band and at the bottom of the over 50 board there is an ad for banding for $5500
So, how much is hospital and supplies?? that's were they get the insurance companies......I'm going to save up and get a band for $5500

Darlene,
A lot of the low-cost band surgery ads are for Mexican surgeons. They've been doing the band for longer than most US surgeons, but I wouldn't go there because finding aftercare would be a challenge.
The hospital charge was 54% of my total bill.
My surgeon quoted a price of $14,000 for the band at my educational seminar. My guesstimate of the final pay-out on my surgery is $28,000.
No wonder insurance premiums are so high...

The hospital I had the lap-band at also charged about $ 54,000.00 for my surgery. I had nothing extra-just the 30 minute procedure and was home within 6 hrs of arriving that morning. I was insulted that they billed BCBS that much. Thankfully I had already signed a contact saying that I only owed $ 4500 for the surgery. But this is an example of why our health care costs are so high. But I am still so happy with my band-great results. 47 lbs gone and counting.
