WELCOME DENISE!!!
Only you can decide what is best for you and your situation.
I was going to go Lapband and then decided I needed something that would be a little more restrictive to keep me in line. I am so happy that I had the RNY. Life is good!! No more high blood pressure, acid reflux,or Diabetes!!!! I am also on a very low dose of thyroid medication now. I have so much energy and there isn't anything I can't do if I want too. I love WLS!!!!
I weish you the best....whatever you decide will be the right choice.
Hugs, connie d

Hi Denise,
Your thought process is no different than many others who have chosen this path, so what it comes down to is you educating yourself and honestly evaluating your personality and what you believe will work best for you. Either way this is a lifelong commitment to changing things you've done that got you where you currently are.
What I can say to you is this, I took two years researching, after seeing several family relations have WLS and go on to live healthier, more active lives, I see sawed between having the surgery and trying one more time to do it on my own, well I'm almost sorry I didn't do it sooner, but hey, I did it and I just had the best summer in the last 20 years of my life, feeling healthy, being able to move freely and I'm not even at my goal yet!
Yes, reflect on yourself and pray and your answer will come.
Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Hi Denise:
You've gotten a lot of good opinions and seem to have made a decision. That's good. I had only one option available to me four years ago: RNY ... the only other option was lap or open, and that was determined by the surgeon when he got in the operating room. He always tried to do lap, but if he couldn't, well, then it was time to open up. I was lucky and he did lap. Six little incisions. No complications, other than a little infection in one of the incisions (and I do mean little). I was 5-3 1/2 and 347 at the time of the pre-op diet; I'm now 170 (same height). It has helped some with my arthritis in my spine and knees, but unfortunately arthritis is progressive so it didn't stop it. I still have it and have to deal with pain daily. I had high blood pressure pre-op, all gone now. Those were my major issues. My pain doc told me if I didn't lose the weight, I'd end up in a wheelchair; funny thing is, with my back and knee issues, I may still end up in a wheelchair. Oh well, can't win them all.
