Anyone here have the Duadenal Switch?
Now, to your question. You know there is some controversy on the OH forums as the DS people stirring up trouble...and yes they do.....but trouble is not tolerated on the Over 50 forums.....now that being said, I will give you my gut feelings on the DS subject.
There are many types of surgery to help us with our obesity disease. RNY, VSG, Banding, DS, etc, etc...There is not one surgery that is a one size fits all. I feel it is up to the surgeon to do the recommending of the type he feels is best for the patient, not the patient telling the surgeon. Most patients want the what is the easiest for them and not have to work at it....There are situations when a couple different procedures are needed. If the person is extremely heavy then one surgery is done until the patient reaches an acceptable goal to have the more stringent surgery. Lots of times this is safer for the patient.
DS is fine, IF you understand that your post op care is higher maintenance than the RNY or VSG, ect....most people opt for the DS cause they can still eat all the foods that made them large in the first place. They are not willing to give them up. I would not opt for that myself....
Then, you have the RNYer's and banders and etc that need to have revisions. DS is the procedure that best fixes that.....
Not sure this answers your question, not sure you will like what I said....do you think that if you have DS your not welcome here? on the contrary, all surgeries are welcome here, even those that have not been able to have their surgeries for one reason or another are welcome, We are Support......
...and when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly...on a broomstick.
We are flexible.

There are four commonly performed surgeries. Each of them have advantages and challenges. If I had a BMI of 50 or more, (my opinion only), I would have chosen the DS. I know folks with each of the four procedures, and each chose their surgery deliberately and with full knowledge.
I went to a surgeon that has excellent statistics for all four surgeries and we discussed each in detail. He was willing to perform any of the four for me. He RECOMMENDED the VSG after examining my lifestyle, eating habits and other factors. For ME, I felt it was a real advantage to have a surgeon who did all four, since I could objectively choose the procedure that was best for me instead of choosing from the ones that he/she did.. I looked at the pros and cons of each procedure, and agreed with his recommendation. For me, it was good choice.
Keep doing your research. Be sure of your facts and choose the procedure that is best for you. Best wishes
