Hi All

Jan S. told me about the 50 and over board and I thought I'd take a peek (as I am over 50!).  Thanks, Jan!

I am a 55, live in Lancaster County, PA and have just woken up to the fact that I am indeed morbidly obese.  Ugh.

I am researching WLS now and am leaning towards the RNY procedure.  I've recently been diagnosed with prediabetes and have 3 other comorbitities.    I've attended a local WLS seminar, heard about the RNY and the Band and have had all questions answered that I could think of at the time.     Of course, many more have surfaced and I am hoping to meet with the bariatric team soon to begin the journey.

I am going to read this board and the others to learn more about the surgeries and the accomplishments and issues you've all encountered.   I am ever an optimist and believe that whatever I choose, I will be ok.   I just want to get the ball rolling!

A couple of questions about the board first... how do I find my own posts if I'm not here for a couple of days?    Y'all seem to post a lot of posts and  I find myself getting lost in them!

Also ...how do I create a 'signature'?

Thanks for the help!

over on the left you see a menu and at the bottom it says "User Settings", go there, that's where you do your signature.....

Not sure what you mean about your own posts...

Hi Darene

Thanks for your help.   What I meant about my own posts is i can't find my way back into the boards and find out if anyone has responded to my posts.   My post gets lost among the hundreds here.  I thought there may be an easy way to find my own to see if anyone has answered a question, or offered advice, etc.

When you post there is an option at the bottom of the post BEFORE you hit submit that allows you to be notified whenever someone replies to that post. Also by your
Avatar and info at the bottom is (Latest Posts) just click
on that and it will bring up your latest posts.

Hope this helps.....I'm not too tech savvy either!

Linda

Congratulations on looking into this life changing journey.

I see you are in Lancaster, PA, a beautiful place that I love to visit.  This board, along with your home board (PA) are two of the best boards to come to for information on OH.  Lots of support and I am resident to both, even though I reside in SWNJ, the NJ board is just not very active and I had my surgery in Langhorne, PA at Barix last October, another great place and where Dr. Brader once practiced.  By the way, there are lots of people on the PA board who have nothing but wonderful things to say about Brader and I recently attended a function where he and his team presented information and I believe you are in probably some of the best hands possible should you decide to undergo this life altering surgery (though I love my surgeon and would chose her all over again).

Gather all the information you can in order to make an informed decision, but mostly what you will find out, is that most everyone would do it again in a heartbeat!  I researched for two years and am thrilled with my new life.

Best wishes, Laureen

Hi Laureen

Nice to meet you!

I've only been seriously considering this surgery for about 6 months and took the steps to finally do something about it this past month.  I've sent in my paperwork to the doctor's office and am waiting to hear back from them now.

I'm fairly impatient at times though and will call them on Monday to see when they may schedule me. My husband thought they'd called the other day and I was pretty excited to finally get into see him, but it was just the results of a blood test I'd had and not the surgeon's office.

I'm glad to hear that Dr. Braden has had rave reviews.  He appeared to be quite sincere, intelligent, articulate and his presentation went well.   I felt he truly wants to help the obese people in the world and will do HIS part, now it's up to me to do mine.

With my recent diagnosis of pre-diabetes and taking the medication for it, I find that I'm not quite as hungry as I once was, feeling nauseous most of the time.    This may actually be good as it will help me lose weight prior to the surgery.

I'm moving forward with the process and hope to have surgery soon, though I know that it can be a long process.  I'm hopeful though that it will go smoothly.   2 other women where I work recently had the surgery and they look and feel wonderful.

again, nice to meet you and thanks for the info!

Welcome to OFF, Linda. You have found a wonderful place full of loving and caring people. We share our lives with each other and know that everyone wants the best for us. We share our experience, strength and hope with each other. We also share our love which is unconditional, happiness, sadness, tears, laughter and every other emotion that we experience through our lives. We offer support for whatever is happening your life and if there is ever a question there is always someone that is knowledgeable. Please post often so we can get to know you and you can get to know us.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Thanks, Brenda!

I am still reading and learning!   There is so much more to learn!

Thank you for the warm welcome.  Everyone here has been so welcoming and caring.  I've recommended the boards to women in work who have undergone the procedure already and they seem eager to join it too.
