Greetings glorious gods and goddesses,
I've been lurking on your forum for a few days now and it feels like home to me.  I'll be 55 in October and I've been overweight since age seven.  Yoyo dieting, always with a little more weight gained after each failed attempt, had left me utterly defeated and hopeless.  Close family relatives have died in their 50s from obesity related diseases.  I now am cautiously optimistic that I have finally found the long-term solution.
My RNY bypass is scheduled for 10/17/08 and I've been gathering info everywhere I can.  Thanks for being here and sharing your knowledge.  I'm looking forward to knowing all of you.
XOXO, Carmel Valley Linda

Hey Linda, Let me be the first to welcome you to the best dang forum that OH has!  Pull up a seat and post often so we can get to know you, and you us. One of the best purchases I've made, since beginning this journey is a book called "Weight Loss Surgery For Dummies", Very informative and I still use it to look up stuff. Again, Welcome.

Welcome to OFF Linda and you will love it here as much as we all do. I felt like I was home the first time that I posted here. Now this is the place I come for everything. My OFF sisters and brothers know me like only a few others do. And the wonderful thing is that they love me anyway. lol

We share knowledge, support, love, rants, tears and just about everything else in between. I am closer to my guys here than I am to my blood family. They love me just as I am~warts and all. And I got plenty of warts for sure!

Please post often so we can get to know you and you can get to know us too. I am so glad that you came out of lurkdom and decided to join in the family.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Thanks all for the warm fuzzy welcomes.  I wanted to share something that I posted on another forum.  After reading the following I remembered how much our limits are self-imposed.  I mean I knew that and used to use that concept in the past.  But now I really know that and am going to do something about it.     ~~Linda
THE BUZZARD:
If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, it will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

THE BAT:

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place.  If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

THE BUMBLEBEE:
A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there
Until it dies, unless it is taken out.  It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom.  It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself.

PEOPLE:

In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee.  We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up!

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!
Live simply, love generously, care deeply, speak kindly and trust in the Universe that loves you.

Welcome!

Good luck on your surgery, you'll find it was the best decision you ever made.  Every pound dropped is like a miracle. I know I look at the scale with disbelief. I was so suprised when my scale matched my doctor's.
