She doesn't feel that I need to have wls
on 8/21/08 11:27 pm - Park Forest, IL
I wasn't sure if I was going to post this or not but you have all been so supportive to me so here goes.....
I saw the Endocrinologist yesterday, the thyroid nodule is benign and she is very pleased with my progress. She said she doesn't feel like I should pursue the wls, since I am losing at a steady rate and have made all the correct changes in food choices, portions and lifestyle. She feels that I have the correct attitude and skills to continue losing and to maintain the weight loss. This is in line with what the psychologist told me last week. I do see the psychologist again today. The endo said I can remain in this metabolic program for 1 year which would be through next February, and all the professionals that I am seeing in this program agree that I should not focus on having wls... just to continue doing what I am doing.
Fear is raising it's head.....
One... can I really do this without wls and keep the weight off?
Two and this is the bigger fear right now.......can I still be your friend here on this board even if I don't have the surgery??? You are all as much a part of my support group as my family. I know there is a non-surgical support group on OH but I feel so much more a part of this group.
I feel so emotional today so it is probably a good thing that I have the appt with the psych. later.
Hugs, Paulette
Just do what YOU want to do, what YOU think is best for you. No body has to be you or live as you, but YOU. If you believe no surgery is best for you then you go girl, if you feel you still need it then you go girl!
I can only speak for me but I bet all these others here would sit on you before we let you get away!
You keep posting on here for as long as you want!

Paulette darlin' ....there isn't one of us that would have NOT done the surgery if we hadn't needed to...if we could have done it by ourselves.....we would have.....you keep up the good work. I am excited for you that you are doing it.....believe me....WLS is not the easy way......but NOT having major surgery is a real plus.
You will be with us ...you are part of us now....and we love you....Love, Marti

I was always able to lose weight... but never able to get it down low enough to last for any length of time. Surgery sure did change that....
But....
.... there sure are people who actually lose weight and keep it off by making the needed lifestyle changes... I was not one of them, and knew it!
This board is wonderful, and you will always be welcomed here by these sweet ladies....
you have tried many times to lose the wt. and like us, it
hasn't stayed off, that is particularly hard on your body.
The only long lasting option is to have the surgery. You have to make up your own mind about what is best for you, dear friend.....pray about it and see what the Lord
has to say and how he leads you... you will always be
welcome here.

Done! Your Ticker:
As far as I'm concerned you are one of us. You don't need surgical scars to be here. Good Luck with your choices. Millie
Paulette,
Of course you can still be on our board!!!!! Like the others have said you do what you have to do in order to loose the weight.
I lost weight before and went on a program and It didnt work for me. I need the restriction.
You do what is in your heart.
Carla
Ill call you later. I am recovering from having a colonoscopy this morning.
Paulette, Only you can figure out what is best for you. Oh how I wish I could have lost the weight and kept it off. I got to the point where I had just given up because I was NEVER able to keep it off. That doesn't mean you won't be able to. I applaude your success so far and wish you the best. Please keep visiting us here.
