i am home.
I had the operation tuesday. Wednesday I felt like I was run over by a train. I could not sip like I thought I would. I felt nauseuos all day . Everything that I sipped, did not go down well. I felt like i had something stuck in my stomach. Today I feel a little better. I pour what I need to drink in a 30cc. cup and sip from it, waiting 5 minutes before I sip again. This is no fun. I feel miserable. I did not expect to be this miserable. I.ve read other posts where all went well. No miserableness. I am trying to imagine what operation did they have. I cannot imagine that they did not have any trouble. I have handled operations in the past. , well. Keep me in your prayers that I will get a bit better every day
Donna, you are in my prayers. Maybe a call to your surgeon is in order. That's what his office is there for, and it will do wonders to put your mind at ease. Probably the reason I didn't feel miserable once I was home was because I spent four days in the hospital post-op. Anyway, hope you're feeling much better each day.

I'm with Debbie, call the doctor's office if you don't feel well. I sometimes think these hospitals treat 'em and street 'em way too fast (and I was out of there in two days). They are best to let you know if you have serious issues ... you may not. Are you having pain? If it's pain, please use your pain meds. You are going to be tired for a while (I didn't have vsg, but I know I was pooped for weeks after the rny). Hope you are feeling better ... but if not, talk to the doctor's office to get your concerns answered.
Please call your doctor if you aren't soon feeling better. I understand what you said about feeling miserable. I was in the hospital for 8 days from not being able to drink anything. When I drank I felt like there was no room to hold it. I told the doctor about this and he took another upper g.i. and it showed that there was a lot of swelling. He put me on ice chips for a few days and that got the swelling down. After that few days of ice chips I felt so much better and could hold liquids down without a problem. I got to thinking that maybe something like that might be your problem. I would call the doctor soon if you aren't feeling better. I am keeping you in my prayers. Keep your chin up and know that sometimes we don't always bounce back like some do. But the joy that this surgery brings when we are feeling better is so worth a tiny bit of misery.
Welcome home,
I agree with everyone, call your doc.
Even if everything is ok, we don't all breeze through it even if we don't have serious complications. I have had no serious complications and I was MISERABLE too! I got better, just took some time. It goes away. Everyone is different and the good thing is you have us to listen to you...no matter what!

I had my surgery Tues. also--feel like a small pony kicked me in the stomach and have somewhat low energy. But considering I am here typing and I have not taken a pain pill since yesterday morning things are ok. Call your doc--I can drink easily--too easily--I just burp a lot. Being diabetic I am still monitoring glucose and have found the sugar free popsickles spike my sugar level--everything else is fine. Hope you feel a lot better soon. Being on the retirement side of things I expected recovery to be long--but now I am actually thinking of going out and doing some shopping today. YYYUUUUUSSSSHHHH there I sent you some good vibes in your direction.
Donna, This is all so new to you. I was almost afraid to try and swallow anything even sips of water or ice chips. I think it was a "head" thing. After a few days I found I really enjoyed my little crushed ice chips. It kind of replaced my need to chew. Call your doctor, if you haven't, Nerves and anxiety can do a real number on me. . . . Try to relax. Many of us have gone before you and are here to testify that it gets better. When I had an occassional bad day I would tell myself "Self: it's a done deal. You just have to deal with it the best you can. No turning back!" And. . . . no regrets here. So hang in there, give yourself a gentle hug from your friends here and rest and sip, rest and sip!

Thank you all for the best wishes. I came home yesterday the 21st. Today I am much better.
The Doctor gave me some info, the bariatric coordinator gave me some info and I had an angel visit while in the hospital , and she gave me some info. They all helped me to see that all that was normal for the very swollen stomache that I have. I am sipping slowly and waiting 5 minutes before I sip again, and it seems more cooperative today. I know that each and every day it will get better and better. Thank you for your support. First post op Doctor visit is next friday at 1100.
