Question about pouch not growing?

I am wondering if anyone who has had RNY surgery has had any difficulty with there pouch not growing after several months. I am 11 months out, my 1 year anniversary is September 5 and I am still eating the same amount of foods i was eating at 6 months after my surgery and feeling very full. Which was about 6 or 8 small spoon or fork full of food, I eat no meat, rice, bread, pasta. My family is vry concerned that maybe my pouch did not grow the way it was supposed to I thought by the 1st yeat it should be the size of a hard ball but I am not sure. All I know is i started at 294lbs. 5'5 I am now 143lbs. My doctor says my goal weight should be 160-155. I continue to lose every week. I try to eat more but I feel so full I just stop and don't eat any more. I would be grateful for any suggestions. I go back to my surgeon on September 5 for one year check up I am going to discuss this with him then and also need a nutrionist. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

Hi Kathi.   First, Congratulations on the weight loss - you are a big success for sure!    I don't know if it's a concern or not (for me at 13 months, it's the opposite - I wish my tummy wouldn't hold so much), but I think you need to talk to your surgeon for sure.  It might help if you have more "mini meals" to maintain your weight, or it might be that you have a stricture.  I don't know much about strictures, but others here do & I believe they can be remedied pretty easily.   HUGS

You say you eat no meat, is that by choice? are you vegan? how do you get your protein quotas?

Pouches do not grow. Some of us do stretch them by over eating....

My main question would be to you is: What are you labs like? are you tracking them?

B12?
Ferritin?
Albumin?
Vit D?
Calcium?

etc, etc

Jan C,
I guess I am just always feeling full after just eating such small portions of food. I thought by now I should be able to get more food in.

Jan S. I did have 2 strictures before in October, had those taken care of, this is different just always feel full after such small meal. I can eat maybe five small meals a day.

Darlene,
My labs at 6 months were all good. I eat no meat by choice. I get protein from a protein drink but only can get one in a day which gives me 20 gram of protein a day.

Thank you all for your help.

Hi Kathi....I am concerned with the small amount of protein you are getting. You are no where close to what you need. I am also worried that you aren't getting in enough calories a day. How abou****er?
I get in about 96-112 ounces an average day.

You definately need to talk with your surgeon.

My surgeon said at 1 year we should be able to eat 1 cup of food per meal. That is where I am now. I get in 80-90 grams of protein a day...I don't do shakes.

Please let me know what your doctor has to say. PM me anytime.
I care and am concerned!!

Connie,
Thank you for your concern. My family is concerned as well. I don't drink that much during the course of the day maybe thee drinks or four, two one litre bottles of water, one glass of orange juice and at night one small cup of decaf hot tea. I just don't have the desire to eat or drink any more than I do. Thanks for the hugs lately I need them alot more then usual.

God Bless everyone on this web site.

Does your surgeon have a nutritionist at the bariatric center? Some of these doctors don't have a center, I realize. If not, you should talk to your surgeon and get together with a nutritionist. You are not getting in what you need. I am not a nutritionist or a doctor, so I can't tell you what to do, and even they can't control what you do. But please get some help. I hope you will.
