Good Morning. Looks like nobody else has started the thread.

What are you doing today?

Week ends are very quiet on this board. Guess we are a busy group lately.

My plans to go to garage sales went kaput. We started doing odd jobs around the house, stuck our noses in books, and the day mosied on by. It was 7 o'clock before I realised I was still in my jammies. At that point, I showered and put on a clean pair. Ahh, a good day.

My daughters are all nervous and jerky about the new hernias. They think I should be doing "something" to prevent them from happening. They make me feel like it is a character defect or a mental problem.

One suggested I start wearing SPANX to keep the muscles in place. The other thinks more exercise is the answer. Darned if I know what will help.

Kisses

Goosy Loosy, what's causing those hernias?

Quite frankly, the Spanx idea probably isn't a bad one.  Out of the two, that's the one I'd pick.  The support wouldn't hurt and it will keep your body a little warmer, too....not to mention they make you feel so..... um.... smooth all the way down.  Kind of a cheap PS thang.

Janet,

You are right.  I'll wiggle into some today. Damned things are like a corset, in my opinion. Better than surgery if it helps.

Hi Annette and everyone:

Sorry about the hernias. I have not experienced that. I had a hernia pre-op around my belly button area; in fact, my two brothers had them too ... my brother Gary got his fixed along with two other hernias. My surgeon (who in fact trained my bariatric surgeon) said it's congenital and wasn't related to my weight. I developed that hernia when I was working in Macon and it got worse and worse when I moved here; I waited until I had enough sick time accumulated to take off to have the surgery. I know my bariatric surgeon (and all the surgeons in this group) use a mesh over the incisions ... in fact, one of the surgeons (the head guy) invented this mesh to prevent hernias from occurring. Before I had the hernia repaired, I wore a girdle (or what I guess is called a "shaper" now) to keep the muscles in place. So maybe spanx or something similar would help you. Don't know. I really do think some people are more prone to them because of genetics, just like my surgeon said about the umbilical hernias.

I am feeling really wrung out today. Didn't sleep all that well; it was a little muggy last night and I tried to sleep with the windows open but finally gave in and turned on the air. I opened the windows this morning but I have a feeling the air is going on soon. The pollen counts have been high, too, so I really should have the air on anyway because my eyes have been itchy and the gunk is gathering in my throat again ... feel like I have to hack up a hairball. Plus, I ran out of my inhaled steroids and am trying to get by until Thursday because I'm a little short of money. Didn't realize I was low on that until Friday when I put on my glasses and looked at the counter ... oops, it's at zero!

So I'm just doing laundry, dumping one litter box that has a hole in the liner and reading, watching Olympics, baseball, etc. ... typical weekend stuff. Did you see Michael Phelps yesterday? Wow! That was great! And I loved watching Dara Torres at 41 get two silver medals. ... almost two golds. She's a big inspiration.

Well, not much else ... took out a steak (the last one ... have to buy more this week) ... and will have that for dinner probably unless I get really lazy (and it doesn't take much to grill a steak).

Have a good one.

Eileen,

I believe genetics are causing these hernias too. Dad had SEVEN hernia surgeries and he was never overweight. Feels like I got the hernia gene from Dad and the overweight gene from Mom.

The surgeon mentioned mesh when he repaired the last two. We shall see what happens when he checks me out on the 3rd.

Watching sports is seldom on my list of favorites - but the Olympics have kept me glued to the TV.

Good Morning Annette and all,

Geeze, Annette, I don't know anything about Hernias. I always thought you got them from lifting and straining...Hope they figure it out and keep them from "popping" up.

We are going out to camp this am to pick Beth up. I am sure there will be lots of tears....saying goodbye to all those she worked with all summer. She will be home until the last week of Sept. when school starts again. Haven't had her home that long since last year.

My vacation starts this Wednesday and we set off towards the west coast on Thursday...will be nice and I am excited to go.Will get home the following Tuesday and get to stay home for a week more. I love to just be at home too.

It was 100 yesterday and is supposed to be there again. I don't know how those of you that have that temp regularly and with high humidity, can stand it. I will say that this year it isn't killing me...I would of been miserable and now I'm just hot. In fact, when I've been in an air-conditioned building, and come out into the heat, it actually feels really good.

Well, have a great Sunday all,
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl,

They can develop after WLS too. The muscles go kind of crazy after losing 200+ pounds . My surgeon mentioned it could happen.

Have a wonderful vacation!!!!

Oh Wow!

I hadn't heard that. Makes sense tho...
Boy, you get to experience all these "fun complications" no fair! You should write a book on that...and how to get through them with a smile and a positive outlook cuz it seems that is what you do! I don't think I would be as good as you are facing all that crap!
