Hi Becky: My name is Patricia Patton and I had a colonoscopy on March 31lst without any problems the prep was miralax and crystal light and believe you me it did the job. I started my prep about 4-5 hours before people who have not had a RNY . I can tell you I sailed through the proceedure and it was fine. This is coming from someone who has numerous complications of the RNY ( with 7 surgeries and 7 endoscopies following my RNY in less than a year) and it made me pretty nervous but, everything was fine and I do not have to repeat anything for 10 years. The GI guy thought he might have trouble with the proceedure in light of my complications but, not one. It is well worth the annoyance to have a clean bill of health...Hope all goes well let everyone know... Patricia

Becky, I had my colonoscopy at 50, a year after RNY. My GI doc was affiliated with the same group as my bariatric doc, so they knew to give me a special prep for gastric bypass patients because I couldn't drink all that stuff anymore. I just had pills to take and drank ginger ale in between. It wasn't real bad at all. I had had a colonoscopy a few years before where I had to drink the gallon of stuff and it was horrible. This was pretty easy. Plus, you are put out to sleep; the other one, I was awake but didn't feel a thing; I could see the whole thing on TV and it was kind of fascinating, as Karen said. Either way is fine. But the prep is the tough part anyway. Make sure you let your doc know you've had gastric bypass so you get the proper prep.

Too late! I had to take the gallon home yesterday and I managed to get it down. I did only have to take 3 litters, so there was some left over...thank God! It was horrible! I will be glad when the procedure is over. I go in at 2:30 today.

What is surprising is that even after not eating all day yesterday and so far nothing today ****il my procedure is over)...I'm not hungry! No hunger pains at all! I do feel kinda shaky because of no food, but the not eating part hasn't been so bad.

I had gain about 20 pounds back since my lowest weight. It scared me to see the scale go up. Well, now I think the plus side of this adventure is that I realized I CAN lose the weight I'd gained. I really don't need so much food! Oh, does the battle ever end? I gues not.

So, now I'm off to have my nails done! I may as well use some of my time off work for myself, right?

Thank you for all the encouragement and suggestions. I appreciate you all!

Hugs,
