Morning!!! What's happening Thursday??
Ok.....latte made, dogs fed, Gary's still sleeping.
Well, haven't been around much, but I have checked in to see that evryone is doing fine, for the most part, and keeping busy.
It's been a somewhat eventful week for me. Monday I went to a new nutritionist and had the MedGem test done to determine my caloric needs to maintain. With me I was armed with pages of print outs from FitDay and a list of all my supplements. It was very, very interesting. The test itself took about 8 minutes. They pinch your nose with this gadget and have you breathe into a little machine which tells them your resting metabolism rate. From that number she calculates your energy needs based on your activity level. All that is put into an equasion, and Viola` out comes your answer. Because I have so little muscle mass(happens to lots of us who lose weight rapidly, and the whole Achilles thing doesn't help) I need 1400 calories to maintain my weight. Well, I was averaging around 1500 a day, so I wasn't too far off. So, she just recommends that I start weight training and that should start my metabolism going some more so I'll be able to up my calories over time. I'll go back in 6 months and see where I am.
That afternoon I had a meeting with the Walk From Obesity Team......and a meltdown. After giving my status report I told them that since Baptist Health didn't seem to give a hoot about this, and I couldn't get through any of the closed doors, someone who actually worked there needed to be doing my job. Ladies, I not only found a backbone, but some cajones in the process!!!! To my amazement everyone started pitching in, volunteering for this task or another. HMMMMM
I agreed to continue to work with the people I'd already contacted for sponsorships and finish that out, but the logistical part of the whole thing is now in their court.
Life is good.
Everyone have a dandy day!!

Susan
Good morning Susan and OFFers!
Susan, you've proven once again that the squeaky wheel get the grease! Good for you!
When I had my metabolic rate tested a little over a year ago, I was told I needed 1600 calories to maintain.
Well, today I'm dizzy and headachy. I got bopped in the head with the trunk lid yesterday while unloading groceries. A strong gust of wind came and slammed the trunk lid down on my head, knocking my glasses off my face. Luckily I saw it coming down and was able to at least block it somewhat with my had which is now bruised and I have a cut on my middle finger.
I'm busy preparing for my daughter, SIL, and Gabe's visit Friday evening - Sunday morning. We've got a full schedule planned! Friday evening, since Gabe's favorite food is shrimp, I'm cooking shrimp ettoufe with rice, fresh green beans, and making a salad. Gabe is a true Cajun and loves his food spicy. They'll have peanut butter pie for dessert. I could probably have a smidgeon since I'm making it with low fat peanut butter, fat free cool whip, and low fat cream cheese. They only really bad thing in it is the powdered sugar, which I'll only use half of what's called for. They won't miss it. Sat. morning, they'll have banana bread that I've already made and have in the freezer, I'll have my usual protein shake. We'll be heading out to the recently opened insectarium, and later to a Zephyr's game. We'll also have Ethan for the weekend. It will be wonderful having both boys together. Sunday, after a big breakfast of sausage (another of Gabe's favorites), eggs, biscuits, and juice, we'll head over to church, then back home so they can get everything packed up for their drive home. Yippee, they're only 3 hours away! I'm so hoping that some of Gabe's good eating habits rub off on Ethan who while bigger than his cousin, is a picky eater. Gabe will eat almost anything - Ethan on the other hand is not into variety.
Better get back to work. The boss has been in a good mood and I'd like to keep it that way!

Debbie
Debbie, I'm going to try Splenda in place of powdered sugar next time I make my favorite lemon dessert. I think I'll use a bit less Splenda than it calls for. It does have an almost the same texture as powdered so I thought I'd give it a try. The recipe I have mixes the sugar with the cream cheese. Does yours?
Karen C
Karen, sorry I'm just seeing this (Tuesday night). My recipe says mix the powdered sugar, peanut butter and softened cream cheese together, then FOLD in the cool whip. I have trouble folding - the whole process is time consuming. I prefer to stir as it gets the job done quicker. I was very patient and FOLDED so as not to deflate the cool whip and make a fluffy pie. It was delicious.
Debbie,
Are you sure you didn't get a concussion? Poor noggin!
Your head banging reminded me of my Dad's funeral.
Dad always told Mom that when he felt it was his time to go he planned to grab her and take her with him.
We filed past his casket for our final goodbyes. Mom was in front of me, I was the last in line.
As I bent to kiss him the lid of the casket came crashing down, pinning me to his chest. I began to laugh and said aloud, "you old fart, you were too slow and just missed her."
Most people were horrified. My siblings and I merely laughed that he "almost" fullfilled his promise.

Hi Susan and everyone:
Good for you, to tell people what you need. Sometimes we need to speak up! I learned that long ago. But a lot of times when I do that, I yell. Which isn't good ... you can just ask nicely. But I yell because I'm scared people won't like me. I've learned you have to ask nicely and you usually get what you want. I have to do that today actually with some customer service folks.
Jan, welcome back, I've missed you, you look marvelous! Debbie, sounds like a concussion to me ... get yourself checked out!
Connie, hope Nic is all right!
I was up early this morning, checked my bank account and decided all I could afford was a haircut and no color. Well, at least the hair is finally cut. But that cost more than the $16 I expected because the woman who does my cut is a "master stylist" ... she cost more. Oh well. Maybe next week I can do the color. Messed up my account last week and wound up with NSF fees ... so much for my string of no bounced checks. So we start over. I try so hard to be fiscally responsible, but my budget is so tight it squeeks. Going to Chicago really hurt last week, plus the week before when my frig broke didn't help either. I need to get back on track. I may look through the house and see if there's anything I can sell on eBay that I can make some money with. I don't see any overtime in the foreseeable future.
Luckily, I think I have enough gas in the tank to last til next week. Got a few groceries ... didn't need much ... plus my prescriptions and I'm set for the week. Not going anywhere this weekend, so I'll save on gas there.
Well, everyone have a good day. I have a review tonight so it'll be late. I hope to get in a nap this afternoon.
