Two weeks ago my daughter Anne-Marie got her first bee sting. A week later her foot was too swollen for shoes so she went to the doctor. He didn't see evidence of a remaining stinger but thought it had become infected. So, he gave her an antibiotic and a Tetanus Shot.

Since then each day has been worse. Anne-Marie said her arm and hand became swollen, every joint ached, she has a fever, heat beats rapidly and she is not able to concentrate on anything.

After she burst into tears over burning bagels, her husband insisted she see the doctor.

The doctor immediately did an EKG - that was normal - and several blood tests.

He thinks she has "Serum Sickness" caused by the tetanus shot. It is not common but he had some information for her.

She is on a course of Predinsone and bed rest. If there is no improvment she may have to see a Neurologist. In rare cases this causes permanant Neuropathy. He told her that she will probably develope a body rash within days too.

I offered to leave immediately for Virginia to help. At this point she declined; DH is staying home to watch over her.

Scarey!!

Annette, I had a serum like reaction (similar but not quite the same as what she has) to an antibiotic in 2001 and the rash was miserable.  Kept coming back.  Long term steroids with a slow taper finally did it.  She sounds worse off then I ever was, hope she is feeling better soon!  joint pain can happen, I had that too.  I was puffy all the time then so don't recall swelling but who knows? That's about the time my weight ballooned to 320.

Thanks for the input Debbie. She was given an antibiotic at the same time. The doctor isn't 100% positive which one has caused the reaction.

She can tell when she's puffy. I think she weighs about 115 pounds if she puts rocks in her pockets.

Good Morning Annette and everyone.........

Annette....sorry your daughter is having such bad effects from that bee sting and shot. I pray it gets better soon and she has no lasting effect.
She sounds just miserable. I am sure you are very concerned. I would want to be there too if it were my daughter. That is scarey!

I am having another busy workday today. Trying to get my weeks worth of work in in 3 days...wooooooo!!! Never a dull minute that is for sure.

Nic just has scans today so I won't need to be there until tomorrow. Today after the scans they are going over to my other daughters and spending the rest of the day with them. Nic can be with his cousins and have a lot of fun. That will be great for all of them!! Sure wish I could join them! I love watching my daughters together with their children! I am so blessed.

Hope you are all doing well. Have a terrific day!!

Prayers, love, and hugs to all......connie d

Annette, I had a reaction to a ephinephrine (sp) shot one time. That is something that I never want to experience again. I was so sick. I couldn't drive and couldn't stay alone either and I had to be dependant on others and I do not always like that.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Thanks Brenda -

Nah - it's no fun to have to ask others for help.

Give help - YES

Take help - no way
