I feel like I'm failing

Patty,

You have done a great job by losing 75 lbs. Probably you have hit the dreaded 7 months post-op STALL. My dietician warned me it was coming and it did!!

That food monster haunts me every day! That is the reason I keep the overwhelmingly tempting foods OUT of my house. If they are not here, I can't eat them without going shopping to get that food junky fix.

Try planning your meals in advance. Write it down and have foods ready for your planned meals and snacks. That helped me. A hungry body makes poor choices.

Having mini-goals of 5 - 10 pounds instead of a BIG number helped me too. It has been the "brain thing".

Keep coming here for help and encouragement. We are all in the same boat.

Hi Annette:

I had never heard of the 7 month post op stall.  I sure am glad to hear some people have hit bumps and continue to survive and make choices and plan!  You are correct about keeping healthy things in the house, we went shopping tonight and I did get cottage cheese, yogurt and fruit! I believe I will over come this (right...ha ha).

thank you for the encouragement and kind words...everyone on this site is soooo supportive, I must say I like it better than the "main" board.

thank you again,
Patty

Patty, I reached a stall and someone told me to work on PEW and that is :

P=protein
E=exersize
W=water

I still work on that when stalls come and they do still come! Also the weight slows down and that can be frustrating too. I use to lose at least 10 pounds a month and now I struggle with a 5-7 pound weight loss. And when I say struggle that is exactly right too! lol Just keep doing what you have to and make sure that you cut down on the carbs, which is hard and I know this for sure, and you have to learn the difference between the hunger and the head hunger. They can be deceiving. Just keep preservering and you will be successful. Use your tool wisely and it will help you on your journey.

                    It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
                        that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Hi Brenda -

You are so right, no matter how much I think I'm doing the right thing, you know you can do better :)  Head hunger is a tricky devil isn't it?  Everyone has been so encouraging I feel blessed to be welcomed so openly.

thank you again for the tips and advice.

Patty, I had a three month stall.   Yes, three months!  I thought it was all over and I was done losing weight, short of my goal.  My body was incredibly efficient at holding on to the weight it had carried for so long.

I stayed the course.  Protein, water, exercise.   My metabolism and fat cells eventually gave up and let me lose the rest of the weight.  You've gotten some great advice from the ladies already.  Just wanted to add my two cents, and let you know that I also faced a long stall and got past it!  You will too.  Just hang in there!

Oh my...a stall at 3 months! I would have gone crazy :)  Yes, everyone has given such good feed back, it is time for me to take control and get the rest of this dreaded weight OFF.  Thank you for the kind words.

Hi Patti,
I am here in Spokane. I haven't had a real loss since May! I know I am pretty close to goal but still...I had mine in Oct. and stopped losing in May. 7 months too!I mostly eat all the right food, but know what you mean about not always making the best food choices. For the most part I do well, but at night and on weekends it is TOUGH! Those carbs call my name and unfortunately I too can eat just about anything. I do need to increase my water and protein. I have been walking my treadmill faithfully, one thing that saves me I think. I constantly battle the carb monster and the grazing when I am bored or sad, or happy or mad, or excited or ANYTHING!
I am hoping my weight is not done going away but I think I have to get stricter with myself.
Good luck and we are here for you!
Cheryl

Hi Cheryl -

It is so reaffirming to know I am not alone.  Congrats on how far you've come so far!  Everyone has been so kind and encouraging, it is heart warming!  You are right it is what we choose and I do hate that carb monster :0

Thank you again for the encouragement and sharing that I am not the only facing some issues!

take care,
Patty
