I haven't been on for a while .... but heard this week that my insurance has denied my request.  They have a 2 year Dr. supervised diet requirement.  I posted on the non-surgerical forum today ... hopefully, someone there can suggest   an eating plan .....   Insurance doesn't offer a pln to follow, just demands that I follow one for 2 years with documentation from my family doctor.

Hi Janelle,

I'm sorry to hear of your news, it has to be very disappointing.

Just a thought...My insurances did not cover my surgery. I'm not rich, don't have a new car, don't go on vacations to far away places but we took some money out of our retirement and paid privately for my surgery. Don't have lots in there either but my husband said if it made me healthier it was an investment in my health. I would of never thought I could pay for something like that...but am soooo happy we did. We would of prob taken out a loan or something too...Also helped us out with taxes last year! Got to take lots off for medical!

If you have to wait the two years...we are here for you....

Good Luck!
Cheryl

**~~**~~**~~**~~**  Two years...  OMG  !!!!  that seems unrealistic...    sigh,  I did talk with a gal in our apt complex about her weight loss.  She was on South Beach Diet.. not supervised ..  and it took her almost 2 years to lose 145 lbs.   There is hope....  does your Dr have a nutritionist or someone he can recommend for you to see?   DON'T give up...  there is hope.....   Millie

Have you ever attended tops or weigh****chers or has your doctor ever put you on a diet?  If not, then have your pcp put you on a diet and then follow it and after six months refile.

Janelle,do you have a medical doctor that you see, who can document that your weight has been an ungoing concern and you have attempted diets continually?? As most of us have!
Keep us posted.

Janelle, I'm so sorry your insurance denied you.  Is there any way your doctor could pressure them?  Good luck, and don't give up!

I paid for my surgery as well. I didn't feel I could wait any more.  The RNY surgery was $13,500 for the hospital and $5000 for the surgeon. Insurance covered pre-surgery testing (even though they denied the surgery) and they cover all the blood work as well.
