WELCOME AMY!!

Are you to old to he healthier and happier...No!!

I had this surgery almost a year ago. I was 242 pounds and am now 122 pounds. I feel awesome. I have never been sick, have tons of energy, and can do pretty much anything I want. I would have this surgery again in a heartbeat. Best thing I ever did for myself. The only regret I have is that I didn't do it sooner.

Research, keep coming to thisd board and ask, learn and listen to the information. Start going to support groups when you can.

Good luck on whatever road you decide to take!

Hugs, connie d

Hi Amy,

I am 57 and scheduled for surgery on Tuesday, August 12th.  If you are crazy then I guess I am crazier!  I can not wait!!  I am so excited and feel that I have the rest of my life ahead of me!  My mom will be 80 this month. If I am lucky enough to live to 80 than I have a good 20 years of healthy living coming my way!!  Whooooo Hoooooo!!

Why wait?

Hi Amy, welcome to the OFF group.  I also am waiting to have surgery tentatively scheduled for Oct. 8th.  Can hardly wait and also am a little scared.  I am currently 60 and going to be 61 Oct. 13th.  I guess surgery will be my TRUE NEW BIRTHDAY.  Everyone I have talked to would do it again in a heartbeat.  I don't post very often but read daily.  If you would like to talk send me a pm. We do not live far from each other.

Cheryl

I think I love you ALL!

Thank you SOOO Much for all the responses!  I am very grateful for you all taking the time to answer me.

I have 2 daughters that married within 5 months of each other...one this past September and the other this past February.  I am just thrilled for them both and now I can't wait to be a Grandma!  So I REALLY want to be a thin Grandma who can run around with the best of them!

I am 5' 6" and weigh 250.  I need to lose 110 pounds. And interestingly enough, neither of my daughters have a weight problem (THANK GOODNESS!!!)

I will keep posting and reading and let you know my progress!  Thanks again,
Amy

Thank you for expressing your angst!  I am 55 and I hope to be lap-banded by the end of Sept.  I too thought perhaps I was too old.  However, I am looking forward to getting healthy, finally.  (Oh, and hot too!  LOL).  We can do this thing!!!

Amy,

First off, a great big welcome to you!  2ndly, I live in Maple Shade, don't think that's very far from where you're at, I post on this and the PA board since I live so close to Philadelphia and had my surgery in Langhorne at Barix, not to mention that the PA board is very active, like this one!

Anyway, with regard to your decision to have surgery at 55, g/f there are some who've had it at I think 65 and done marvelously.  Hey, just my opinion here, but we're never too old to get healthy and subsequently seems to reverse the aging process, at least it seems that way for me, I feel 20 years younger, am living a very active lifestyle, I used to trudge through every day living, now I enjoy most everything I can do and I can do lots of things today that prior to this surgery were not even thoughts of mine. . .  I am 53, was 52 when I had my surgery in October 07.  So long as your surgeon gets clearances for you, you should be good to go and I doubt very much you will regret making this life altering decision!

Good luck and again, welcome to one of the best forums on OH!

Welcome Amy

I was 52 when I had my VSG, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself.  It gave me a new life.  No problems and no complications.

Best wishes as you decide on what is right for YOU.
