If you are having your periods every three or so months, it sounds to me like you are going through menopause.  There is nothing short of a hysterectomy that can make it happen any faster.  If I remember correctly, I went through menopause early, like 45, I started out with irregular periods then every two months then every three months then I'd go months with no period then get a gushing surprise.  It finally ended after two years of this irratic menses.  Wouldn't you know it, menopause complete, wake up one day, bleeding like a stuck hog, go to the doctor, find out I've a tumor and they do an emergency hysterectomy.  Why oh why could they have not done that first and saved me all that irregularity. I'm 56 years old and had my RNY Oct. 23, 2007. Until that time I was having regular periods and then until April I was having them about every other month. Now, it's been 3 months since I had my last one. I've lost 113 (13 pounds under my goal weight) and may not have any more. I understand that hormones are stored in your fat and many overweight women go into menopause later because of that. Now that we've lost our excess fat, it's very possible you won't have any more. I recently also began having "hot flashes" and "night sweats" so I'm definitely going through peri menopause.

What I really suggest to lose those last few pounds is to continue to follow the rules -- drink lots of water, exercise, vitamins, etc. Before my surgery when I met with the Psych she asked me what my goal weight was. I told her 155-160 pounds (I'm 5'8"). She told me that they considered weight loss surgery successful when a patient obtains 50% of their desired weight and that often times "older" patients may not reach their "goal" weights. I told her that if I reached 175 and was able to maintain that weight, that I would be totally happy.

April 21 (6 months after my RNY) I was 174 and went in for a total hip replacement. I've worked hard to regain my strength since that time and have been grateful to be able to walk. I haven't been below 150 in 35 years and through exercise just kept losing even though I've increased my calories from 700-800 to about 1200.

Hang in there and don't worry about the pounds or trying to jump start something you may be finished with. Be happy with you and all of your success you've made. You've come a long way and your journey is not over yet.

All the best.

Kathie

I ACTUALLY  DONT MIND THEM,, I GUESS I WILL JUST SEE WHAT MY BODY  BRINGS ME IN THE FUTURE....FOR THE MOST PART I AM OK WITH  MYSELF,, I AM STILL GOING THRU THE EMOTIONS OF UNBALANCED HORMONES AND WANTED TO GET TO GOAL THEN I THOUGHT MY MIND WOULD STABLIZE,,WISHED I'D DONE THIS SOONER,,
