My DH (Jason) is a 24 year Navy veteran, and yes he joined up 2 months after we got married.  LOL  He also can take care of himself to a point!  I have 4 grandchildren and can't wait to keep up!

I wanted to say thanks for the welcome and tips.  I may not have to stay overnight if I am the 1st one of the day and do okay!  I am going for the lapband and I hope I am as ready as I think I am.

Hi Vera,
Welcome to OFF. Sorry I can't help you with expectations relation to lap band - I'm scheduled for RNY LAP on the 13th - day after you. I hope all goes well for you with your surgery.

Hi Maggie,

I've been sending my prayer to a higher power so I feel confident.  I hope you do well also.

Things I am really glad I did at the hospital:
   * Brought nice, baggy (but decent) PJ botoms, so that as soon as I stood up after surgery, I felt at least like I was covered... and it was easier for me to want to walk. Also made my own snap shoulder PJ top, but woudl not expect anyone else to do that.. it was my thing to feel like I was in control a bit more,  I think.. but I am a nurse.
   *  Had the courage to get up and walk around the floor several times the day od surgery.. and that occupied my tie a bit, since I was NPO until the next morning.
   *  Brought my own slipper socks with tread bottoms, that felt like I was in my own clothes.
   *  brushed my teeth, on Operative day, (ugh- had some weird bloody stuff on tongue, I guess)  and too the little lemon swabs and rubbed inside of gums, and tongue.. the nurse had FROZEN the lemon swabs in the fridge, and my daughters and I walked down a couple of times and picked up a new set. Amazing how nice those things are, when frozen. tasted like lemon ice.
  * took as little stuff with me as possible, folded up a $5 bill, my credit card, Insurance ID card and Drivers license, and tucked them into a little card holder, and left my purse at home. Brought toothbrush, hairbrush and a change of clothes  extra ooose for hospital, for the trip home.  Obesity help has lots of pre-surgery tips that are availabele. these are just waht made me feel great...
Also, my daughter drew a little picture of all my kids (& her husband) on the white message board in my hospital room, so that when they went home for the night, I still felt a little like they were in the room with me.  Their tender love for me during this time was a blessing that cannot be purchased for millions.  I am so grateful, and hope you have the same kind of support.
Blessings and hugs, hoping for the best,  Donna H
