question
I saw my surgeon last Friday and he said I could start pureed foods. So I started pureed foods on Saturday.
I had some cream of wheat with milk for breakfast on Saturday. My daughter and I were running errands on Saturday afternoon and we ran through Wendy's and I got the chili. Came home pulverized it and it went down well. Had the same for dinner. Went down well.
Sunday I had milked down yogurt for breakfast. For lunch I tried pulverizing some mac n cheese, wasn't exactly the consistency of apple sauce so I passed on it and had some more chili.
Last night I had a hard time falling asleep because I felt an odd pressure, almost like I had a knot in my throat, like when you are holding back crying. So I got up and sat up in the couch and finally fell asleep.
Today, I tried some pureed cottage cheese and apple sauce for breakfast. It went down ok. But now, at noon I still feel that knot in my throat. What could it be?
Thanks.
Felice

Felie,
Are you using a measuring cup to make sure you don't eat too much?
I still measure my food most of the time and don't trust the old eye balling method. If I take one teensy bite too many, that's the feeling I get.
Keep track of what foods make you get that feeling. Sometimes laying on your left side helps the food pass more easily too.
BUT, if it continues more than a day or two - CALL YOUR SURGEON.

I am using a very small bowl (like for toddlers) an espresso spoon which means it is smaller than a teaspoon, when I am eating. I am using a measuring spoon.and only doing 3 tablespoons instead of 4. My surgeon's guidelines said 3-4 tablespoons and then gradually add a teaspoon.
I should probably pace myself better. I might be eating too fast.
Thanks, I didn't think about laying down on my side.

You sound so tight! Has it been only a week since you had surgery? Sometimes, I alternated clear liquids with the pureed things, at first. And I believe I limited intake portion sizes to about a 1/2 cup that first week or two. six very small protions a day. I remember that warm oatmeal felt marvelous. It was not a protein shake, and made my tummy feel kind full but not uncomfortable.
Unfortunately, my body is healed up very well by now, and I could wolf down a lot of things too fast and too large, if I am not careful.. It takes a while for your mind to get with the program.. When I am not as careful... I haveto get up and walk, take a tiny sip of something warm, and just rest until whatever it is decides it can go on through. I seem to be unable to throw things back up.. and they always disappear in a short while. I hope you are finding a way to treat yourself kindly... and be more careful...

felice i have to agree with darlene on the toomany new foods to soon and you aren't knowing what is making you feel like that...also eating pasta at one week out??? no way...i am what 21 months out and i still have trouble eating pasta!! slow down on the new foods that you are trying and also annette said lay on your left side it helps food go down easier if it feels "stuck" i learned that one and passed it on to people and it really does work!! did your WLS or NUT give you any foods to try at this stage?? some of what you are trying i couldn;t have til over 6 weeks out...but then all drs and nuts are different...treat your new pouch like a newborn baby's tummy...gentle for a while then more solid type foods...good luck!!
hugs
Judy,
Thanks. I tried the laying on my left side and that did help.
Basically I have a list of suggestions such as : rice and noodles, soups, casseroles, eggs (blended), fat free pudding, etc. So I am trying to figure out what to try. I am not real happy with this list of suggestions.
What did you try during your pureed weeks?
