I do not have any life insurance.  For years I have been receiveing those things from AARP.  Well I WAS REFUSED!! Because of my gastric bypass surgery.
I had been told to expect this kind of response.. but it takes awhile to sink in.
I am in much better health than I have been for years. Don't they realize this.  I was more of a risk BEFORE surgery.
I guess if I apply for any other I will not tell them about the RNY.  I am to honest though.
  Thanks for listening.  Alice

The problem with not disclosing the RNY, when you "go" your heirs might have a problem collecting.

I've received some junk mail from insurance companies lately. I looked at a couple of them, and they usually ask if you've had a gastric bypass surgery. Some companies won't approve you at all with the surgery, and others won't insure you until at least 2 years past surgery. DAVE

i have AARP life ins-i think it is like dave said about length of time since surgery- i know that i disclosed and it's only been about two years since i got the ins....my rant is health ins- i had it til jan 31st and now can't get written-i am 4 years out from my RNY --was told by anthem that they won't write til 5 years out....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

I had also heard it can be difficult to get health insurance afterwards, like if you change a job and change carriers, but my daughter has changed jobs acouple of times and has had no problem. I have AARP Life Insurance but I got it about 2-3 years before my RNY no where that I saw do you have to report surgeries afterwards..

Thank you all for your input!! I really do appreciate it. Perhaps I will wait for a year or so and try something again.  There is no reason I had not gotten it before. Just lazy and a procrastinator.
I have heard that there have been people that have been denied health insurance.. What a shame... Like I stated before I am in much better health than I was previously,, and I and sure you are too.
Good luck to all of you.
Thank you again for your responses.  Alice
