Tamoxifen and WLS
Hi
I'm a breast cancer survivor - four years out - and will have to take tamoxifen for another year. Once I reach the five year breast cancer post-op date, I will go off it. My wls has not yet taken place, but I am concerned about the effect that the wls will have on the absorption of tamoxifen. Is there anyone else here who has had breast cancer and took tamoxifen after WLS?
I'm assuming that less of the tamox will be absorbed after the surgery, which would not be a good thing for a breast cancer survivor.
Hugs to all.

Gee, I am interested in what you find out............I have atypia and it was suggested I take something like tamoxifen, but decided to have wls first and then decide if I should take it. I know that being overweight increases my chances of breast cancer, and decided to take care of that first..........let me know what you find out
thanks

I don't have breast cancer but am at a high risk for it. I joined the STAR study 5 years ago and have been recieving Tamoxifen during the study. I stopped taking it just before my surgery and resumed immediately after. I'm not sure how it is adsorbed, but I wasn't told how effective itwas post op,
