I was wondering about WLS at advanced ages.  I will be near 65 when I have my surgery.  Were any of you older?  How did it go.

HI
I had lap RNY last Aug. 2007 at age 68 1/2.....surgery went great, no problems during recovery...feeling great.
Off all diabetes meds, and all blood pressure meds. Maybe haven't lost as fast as younger ppl but still pleased with loss so far.....

Good luck!

I had surgery when I was 66 and 8 months old. My surgery wasn't an easy one. I nearly bled to death that evening. They gave 6 pints of blood and i pint of plasma and took me back to surgery the next morning and opened me up to repair the problem. I have had a rough journey but it has been my own fault for not followering the rules. I have lost 101 lbs with 19 more to go. You go for it girl and follow the rules and you will be ok.   Birdy

Hi Birdy,
I'm pre-op and was wondering about your surgery scare. You said it was your own fault - can I be noisy and ask what you did? I'm really not just being noisy - I want to make sure that I don't do it. I'm 2 weeks away and I'm starting to get a little nervous and want to make sure that I don't do anything wrong.

Thanks
Maggie

The surgery problem wasn't my fault one of the staples slipped and I nearly bled to death.
As for now I am trying to have my cake and eat it too as the saying goes. I haven't been able to throw up for years and I still can't. I just get really sleepy abd the next morning I have a huge bowel movement. Here lately I have been eating way to much because I can't feel when I'm full. Also I am 1 of the unlucky ones that never got the honeymoon faze where you don't feel hungry.
I have lost 102 pounds so far with 20 more to go so it hasn't all been bed. I just need to follow the rules more.
Good luck on your surgery.  Birdy

I had my RNY at 59, almost 60. At one of my support groups, a plastic surgeon recently showed slides of RNY patients before and after plastic surgery. He indicated on patient had surgery at 75. She then had plastic surgery. Why have plastics at her age? The doctor indicated she liked nudist camps, and wanted to "look her best". DAVE

Dave, I just loved your post!!!! There's hope for me yet.
I will definately need some plastics, old skin doesn't tighten up too good.....LOL! No, No, I'm not interested
in going to a nudist camp.

Have a great day!
Pat

Be careful in your quest for a plastic surgeon. Skin from obese people has stretched, and requires specialized procedures for maximum outcome of the surgery.  PM me when you're ready. There is an excellent plastic surgeon in the San Diego are that does extensive surgeries on WLS patinents. He did a little of 70 surgeries on these patients last year, whereas most PS offices only do under 10. DAVE
