I want to thank everyone for their caring and encouragement!  I am wondering if anyone joined any
kind of healthy eating group like Weigh****chers?  They are too expensive for my taste, but
there must be others.  I was thinking of seeing a nutritionist to get rid of my previous bad eating
habits and help me with meal planning.  Talk to you soon, Mikelanne

Hi Mikelanne, I used to belong to weigh****chers a long time ago, so I had the materials and did follow the program from Dec till April. i started seeing the Nutritionist and Endocrinologist in March, they both felt WW didn't consider carbs so encouraged me to change to limiting calories, carbs and fats. I am now losing 2 lbs per week following their advice. I think for me my family, seeing the nutritionist and posting/reading on OH have been the 3 biggest factors in my losing weight and sticking to my plan. I have gotten so much support from all my new friends here, and ideas on things to help make it easier to follow a healthy eating plan. I now make sure I get enough protein and water in each day.  I also use thedaily plate.com to track my food. I know there are other sites too like Fitday and Sparkpeople(?) that others use.  I think we just have to be very proactive in this journey and learn as much as we can.  Good luck to you, Paulette

Hi Paulette,
We must be related.  I started at 292 pounds as well.  I need to keep track of my food; I know
that doing that is a real key to long term sucess.  I think I have downloaded the dailyplate.com.
I will have to look, but I think it goes into Excel.
I think I will see a nutritionist.  It seems to me I could have meal plans just for me and not
a group.  What was the point of the Endocrinologist?  Do you have thyroid problems?
I am going to check and see if Kaiser (the insurance that wouldn't pay for my surgery-:-() has
a nutritionist.  In the meantime, I have to find the program that has the little flowers and shows
your weightloss.  Thanks again, Mikelanne

Hi Mikelanne,

292 was a horrible realization for me..I knew 300 wasn't far off. But now I am 250, hope it is soon 249, I was hoping to be at 248 by tomorrow or Saturday so we will see. i was still 250 this am.  I need to quit hoping on the scale every day...makes me nutso. LOL!!  BTW  I'm 5'3" and 52 yrs old.

I have trouble swallowing and there is pressure on my throat so the endo ordered a ultrasound of the Thyroid they found I have a nodule on it, so I am having a biopsy on 8/15. The endo. said my thryroid was a little sluggish but since they found the nodule they won't put me on any meds for the thyroid till they get the nodule figured out.

I have downloaded the info from the daily plate to excel too. But my nutr. prefers i keep a written journal and bring it in monthly to my visits.  I log what I eat into the journal then throughout the day log it into the daily plate and get the calories & carbs from there.

www.tickerfactory.com is the site for the weight loss ticker. It's pretty easy to follow and have lots of tickers to choose from.

Have a good one, Paulette

Dear Paulette,
I had a biopsy done on my thyroid a few years back when they felt a little something that
thank goodness was a nothing.   I had radium as a child for adnoids.  Those were the days
when you could go to a shoe store and stand in a machine to see an Xray of your feet.  All the kids loved them.   I wonder how many shoe store owners ended up with cancer.....awk!
I am 5'5" and I knew this was my last chance for a normal life; 292 and counting was
so frightening to me because I knew if I didn't do something, I would be dead by 70 (I'm 64 now).
I have been so lucky with my health---no diabetes or high blood pressure.   But I knew I was
pushing the envelope.   So, I am very optimistic (where is spell check?) about my future.   I am
down to 266 and would like to lose about 10 pounds a month.  I don't think that is unreasonable.
I have been negligent about looking at my instructions on eating, but am going to look at it
tomorrow.
      You take care,  MIkelanne

I didn't, but I know lots of people who went to TOPS to keep them accountable (I think Karen Courtney might be one), which is less expensive.

Thanks,
I get a feeling TOPS is hard to find in my area: but, I will give it a try.  Thanks, MIkelanne

Hi there,

My husband goes to Overeaters Annon and has lost 50 lbs since starting in December. It really helps you learn to recognize an addition to food and why we do the things we do regarding food. It's free and you can find a meeting by going to their website. Sorry I don't have it, but if you Yahoo it (or Google) I'm sure you'll find it.

Good luck

Susan

Hi,

I tried OA many years ago and it was a little heavy duty for me.  BUT, I appreciate your input.
Have you heard of any pre-mixed canned or bottled drinks that aren't sweet?  Most of them
taste awful to me.  Thanks, MIkelanne

Your surgeon should have supplied you with post op guidelines that would help you with your meal planning. All their do's and don'ts...
