Regular black coffee
Hi Pam:
My doc doesn't recommend regular coffee....I can have decaf and tolerate it really good. I've had a few cups of the regular and find it makes my little tummy hurt. It could be from my GERD, I don't know, but I've decided not
to drink it anymore. Caffeine is a diuretic so if you do drink it you can't count it as a liquid, and you need to drink extra water to offset it.
Just my two cents worth!

Done! Your Ticker:
Pam,
I was allowed to have regular coffee at 6 weeks out, though by the time I found out I could I was almost 9 weeks out (lol), however, I was told to drink an extra cup of water for each cup of coffee and to keep the consumption minimal, so I have about 6 to 12 oz. a day, no more, haven't had any problems and some days I don't bother now, or if I want a lattee, I have the decaf variety, so I can count it as fluids and the skim milk as protein ;)

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen

Good information, Laureen. Thank you. I've been off the caffeine (well not totally, have had some green tea) for 5 weeks and it's not that I had any kind of withdrawl symptoms. I know some people were told on their pre-op liquid diet that they couldn't have regular coffee but I was allowed that. I may try the decaf route if my desire for coffee stays with me. ~~ Pam
Pam,
It is always best to follow your surgeon's guidelines. I always try to give new people the best advice, but you are talking about my one enormous vice - COFFEE!
Since WLS I have given up all sorts of foods with few problems, but not my coffee. No decaf, I drink high test with SF hazelnut creamer.
My surgeon hasn't complained, good thing because I probably would thumb my nose at him about this one. In all other areas I have stuck to his guidelines.
Again - talk to your surgeon first!! (I am soooo bad, sorry)
