Thank God for this website!!
Hi Annette
I cannot get over how much weight you've lost and how great you look, especially in that black dress! I am hoping and praying that I can get to that point - I know that I'll feel like a million bucks - but I'm afraid that I won't make it.
How did you lose so much weight? It looks like you lost over 200 pounds! Is that right? Did you ever in your wildest dreams believe that you could wear beautiful clothes again? This seems miraculous to me - believing that I will one day have a "normal" weight and be able to buy my clothes from all the stores I like and not just from a limited number of them or from small sections within the stores. I'm very excited and so thankful that I found this site. There is hope for me, yet!
Thanks
Marg
PS say a little prayer for me that my medical conditions (breast cancer survivor, anemic and heavy history of family heart disease)don't cause me to be unable to have the surgery. That would break my heart.

thanks Marg,
I have lost over 200 pounds - one miserable pound at a time - just like everybody else.
I have been sticking to the food plan since the first day I met the dietician. It was difficult and very confusing at first. With the encouragement and support of this wonderful OFF family I have managed to figure it out.
We all fear failure, me included. The weight doesn't always come off in any particular manner. Each stall or slow down made me positive I was done losing.
Shopping is still a challenge. Finding an age appropriate outfit, size 2 - 4, for a 60 year old woman is difficult - but a heck of a lot more fun.
I will certainly keep you in my prayers.
Annette

Welcome to OFF, Marg!
I'll be 56 really soon and had my surgery 6 weeks ago. I hope you continue to be informed and learn and then you will make the decision that is right for you.
I wish you all the luck in the world working with your doctors to achieve your goals! Looking forward to following your progress.

Welcome to OFF, Marg. We are so glad that you joined us. Please post often so you can get to know us and we can get to know you. Feel free to ask anything~we are very open and honest here.
I had my open rny in October of last year at the age of 53. I wouldn't change anything for even a second. I love what I am today and who I am today. Totally different from the old me. I am now the young me.
I had surgery and I had diabetes, cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure caused from it, and such a bad back that at times I couldn't even walk. There was times that I couldn't even get out of bed or up from a chair either for that matter. I wouldn't let the family health bother you. I have a family history on both sides of heart and cancer. My dad died at the age of 53 from a heart attack and most of all his family (dad, mom, brother and neices and nephews) all died young. All of them from either cancer or heart problems. I remember sitting at my cousins memorial service late last year and telling her that we can only hope we have mom's genes since we are screwed if we have dad's. The bad thing is I take after my dad much more than my sister does. I did this with the blessing of my cardiologist. He told me that it would be the best thing I could ever do for me. He was right. The surgery can't help the damage done to my heart already but it helps the heart to work better because it isn't fighting with the fat anymore. My heart is now functioning at almost normal. I was told about 16 years ago that I had 1 year to live because of my heart.
Make sure you keep a postive attitude and do what your heart tells you to do. At least that is what I find I have to do. I wish you luck and knowledge to make the correct dicision for you and only you. Please keep us posted on how things are going. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me.

Hello Marg, and welcome! I was a "lightweight" too according to OH standards. I had my VSG at 52, and got down to a normal BMI, below my surgeon's goal for me. It's been over 20 months, and I have done great. I know you will too! Best wishes as you explore the different surgeries and find the one that best matches your lifestyle. For me, the VSG was a great choice. Come on over to the VSG board if you want to hear more about it. The DS and the RNY are also great choices.
Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Marg:
I had my surgery when I was 49; I'm four years out and have lost 180 pounds ... well, last year I lost only a pound and a half! But I am maintaining at 170 pounds, so I'm so happy! You wondered how you would be able to lose and keep it off when you haven't been able to do so for all these years. Well, I was a fat kid and a fat teen and an even fatter adult. I was up to 355 pounds at my largest. I wondered the same things too. They don't operate on your brain, you know. I went into therapy for that. It was the second best decision I made; the WLS was the first. But the decision to have surgery led me to therapy, because I knew I had to control my addictions and my emotional eating and find other outlets or I'd gain my weight back.
Pat's right about MMPC: it's a great group of physicians, nutritional staff, exercise physiologists, etc. They have a great team there. It's great after-care. They follow up on your bloodwork and make sure you are getting the proper nutrition and supplements.
Plus, I found this wonderful support group right here online, and they have made such a difference in my life, my OFF sisters and brothers. I wouldn't have made it this far without them. I was already a year out when I discovered this forum. What a find! What a bunch of gems these people are!
If you have any questions, please e-mail me, and I'll be happy to answer them. I had RNY; that's all that was available when I had my surgery.

welcome a-board
i am a "marguerite" not a margaret!
i was 50 when i had surgery9 4 yrs ago)- i chose rny to have the restrictions- the dumping- and i have/do- if i continued eating just any old thing that i wanted whenever i wanted in any quantity i wanted i would be anything but LW by now!
i was considered a lightweight and have found that there were (not so much now) ppl *****ally did not feel that we LW's deserved surgery-that we weren't fat enough or hadn't struggled enough--if they only knew!!!
anyhow- good to have you join us!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hello Marge.....Welcome to OFF.....glad you are joining us.
I was considered a lightweight also. I am 58 years old.I had Lap RNY in August 2007. It is the best thing I ever did for myself. I would do it over in a heartbeat. I have so much energy and feel so healthy.
There isn't anything I can't do now. Life is fun again!!
Hugs, connie d
