Howdy

Howdy, y'all, my name is Jean and I'm 63 years old.  I had stomach stapling back in the 80's, which, convinced me that I was a complete failure because everyone else could lose weight, but, not me.  My doctor put me on Lyrica for my fibromyalgia and I gained 30 lbs that was the last straw.  I'm looking for a doctor to do a revision, I've met with one and he ran a lot of tests but he turned out to be a "frog", so I'm still looking for my doctor prince.  As you can tell, I'm very long winded, no one to talk to here in the forest.  Take care, y'all, and God bless.

Hi Jean, I'm Katherine and welcome aboard!  Please know that you are not a "failure", not by any stretch of the imagination.  You will find a great group of people on this forum who offer tons and tons of support and compassion with absolutely NO judgement.  Be well and best wishes on your doctor prince (haha, I like that!  My surgeon was no more than 12! Well, according to this 50 year old, he looked 12!  I like to think of his as Doogie Howser)

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Failure is only a fact when you give up. Everyone gets knocked down, the question is: Will you get back up?

Welcome aboard, Jean. We pass no judgements here. We all have to do what we have to do and that is just a fact. I think that once you get to be our age we are finished with judgements. Thank God~I have enough to worry about taking care of myself~and my hubby Bill too. If I didn't take care of him he would probably shrivel up and fall apart!!! haha

I like the frog part. I at first thought that mine was a bit froggy but now he is just a plain prince to me. He is a sweetie once you get to know him.

Please post often so we can get to know you and you us. We laugh, cry and everything inbetween here on OFF and we totally accept everyone for who they are.

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

hi jean! welcome a-board
when i first told my hubby that i wanted wls he was disturbed as he had friends who also had stapling done in the 80's and died...needless to say things have improved...

you will find the right doc--you are NOT a failure....

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Jean, hi there!
Revisions take a great level of expertise. Please post this same message on the Duodenal Switch forum. It is very important to choose what you want for the rest of your life.

Good luck on your search, Jean!

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!
