Hi Y'ALL!
Ok,I am married, and 51.I ttaught for several years.I weigh about three hundred pounds.I have some fear about having the surgery, but,I also fear the comorbidities that my weight hascaused to my body.
I have always been better at taking care of others instead of myself-and want to break that pattern.I see the surgery as a big step in that direction. So with fear I MOVE FOWARD!

Having fear is alright but the important thing is making sure it doesn't make us stand still in our lives. We must keep moving through the fear to move on with our lives. OMG am I deep today or what?! I have even shocked myself!
Welcome to the OFF board. We love to see new ones join us weather it is before their journey or during it~either way it a journey of the most wonderful kind. I wish you much luck and success on the beginning of your wild ride into the new and exciting life.
We must remember to take care of ourselves even though I am like you too and do better taking care of others. But I have found we are like wells of water. If you keep taking out it eventually goes dry. We have to give to ourselves the things that we need so we don't dry up and have nothing to give to others.
Please post often and that way we can get to know you and you get to know us. Welcome aboard!!

Hi, I have a fractured vertebrae(L5) and 2 degenerated disks.(L4-L5 & L5-S1) I use a cane as needed more so when the weather was bad, and have limited mobility, my knees are bad because of my back, but because of my weight the doc is unable to do the spinal fusion hence my need for wls. I am in the preapproval stage right now, getting my 6 months supv diet and the other things done. My orthopedic surgeon reccommended the RNY for me. Paulette
Ro,
Welcome, as you can already see by the response to your post, we are all supportive here and you appear to be determined, so I truly hope you find a doctor to help you get healthier.
As for fears, I'd be willing to say that most, if not all of us, had some, but I saw the realities of what obesity does in my family and that was not where I wanted to wind up, not to mention I was barely living life at the age of 52. By some standards, I was considered a lightweight for this surgery; a mere year ago, walking was painful, now I do 5ks, as a walker and I zip around as opposed to trudging through life and while I'm not where I want to be yet, I do the things I can to make sure that I continue on.
Again welcome, I wish you well in your search to find a doctor who can help you. With regard to your mobility issues and the exercise portion of this journey, perhaps you can find a gym that has a lift, where you can do water areobics or swimming, but I don't know how bad your CP is, so please forgive me if I am being too forward, I am just trying to offer some helpful ideas. . .
Regards, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . . It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . . Laureen
