Pittsburgh was great!
I got back from the convention late last night and was going to post first thing this morning, but you know what they say about the best laid plans.... I slept in late (9 am), then got up to a muggy but breezy 86 degrees, and decided that grass needed mowning, and one thing led to another, and I pulled some weeds, and dug up some Iris for a neighbor, and, and...
Anyhow. The Pittsburgh OH Event was very nice. The speakers were good, and the one I had already heard speak in Detroit has improved, and was very entertaining, and what she said hit close to my heart. I came home with bags full of loot, as there weren't too many people there, and the vendors didn't want to take anything back. LOTSA loot!!! Plus a lot of info on how to purchase those things we liked. The keynote speaker was Dr. Dennis Hurwitz, who invented the one-step full body lift. The before and after pictures were astonishing! I've been lucky that I don't have too many skin issues that I can't live with, and I've sworn off future surgeries unless there's an emergency involved. But for those who have severe skin issues and enough $$$ to pay, this guy is a magician! He did actual consults right there, and they told people what they would need done, and gave them prices. He's high, but I guess it would be worth it. Most would be self-pay, though, and I heard at least one quote over $50,000. OUCH!!!
The best part, of course, was seeing some of the sisters. I went with my friend Carol, who had WLS about 18 months ago. She's a lurker on the OFF board, reads but doesn't post. So, she knows who people are who do post. We met TerriB and her wonderful (translate: patient) husband Mike at the conference, and got to know each other on the breaks. The the four of us met Mary Baseball_Mom at the hotel Saturday night and we had a great dinner and a greater visit. It was wonderful to see Mary again! I'm just sorry that Lora was still on vacation. I would have liked to see her, too. One of the OH staff stopped in before we left the restaurant, and we got some pictures which I, true to form, am unable to get onto the computer from the camera. I'll try to make prints at Walmart, scan them in, and put them on line for all to see. Meanwhile, Mary, if you can post yours, feel free.
It was another great opportunity to meet more of the people who I read from and about on a daily basis. I'm never disappointed. This will be my last trip for a while, I'm afraid, as finances are getting a bit tight with all the traveling I've been doing lately. But I wouldn't have missed any of it so far. All these "sisters from another mother".... What could be better?!

Candy,
It was great seeing you again and meeting Carol, Terri B, and PHOTB (patient husband of Terri B). I do wish I would have come to the event since there were so few who attended. Our visit was short but great. I see you did find your way out of our Pittsburgh construction and made it home ! I had no problem getting home, didn't hit any construction in my direction. Maybe some weekend Lora and I can take a drive to Erie to meet you for the day.

Some of the same freebies, but lots more. I ended up with 7 achieveONE's to take home, a dozen protein bars, several samples of powdered protein mix, a book written by Dr. Hurwitz on his total body lift, samples of vitamins and calcium tablets, and pens. Also a bunch of back issues of OH magazine. It was quite a haul! Only 67 people attended (we had almost 170 in Detroit), and the vendors didn't want to take anything back. We didn't win any door prizes, but we did OK.
We had a great time seeing Mary again, and meeting Terri and her husband.

I had the time of my life! I so enjoyed meeting you (Candy), Carol, Mary and Kim (OH).
What more can I add to what you posted, Candy?? I too agreed the day was filled with wonderful speakers. I myself had an evaluation with Dr. Dennis Hurwitz and feel he is quite the surgeon, ever after I recovered from "sticker shock"...lol
I enjoyed getting together for dinner and being able to actually meet those I have seen numberous times on the board! And thank you for mentioning my "patient hubby" Mike. He is my best supporter and while I am fully aware most sisters do not have their "hubbies" in tow.....as you can see....he is just as involved and loves meeting the sisters as well!
Kim with OH was quite accomodating and gave me several samples and OH information to pass along to my support group members. Thank you again Kim!
On closing, I am so happy to know that everyone made it home safe and sound and look forward to our next gathering, where and whenever that may be.....

Yum, free AchievOnes! Wish I had some ... I'm running out. Have to bug my health food store again. Still waiting on my order (from a month ago).
Sounds like a great time. Someday, when I have more money f******aybe I'll go to one in Detroit (because they'll never have one closer in Michigan ... they think Michigan begins and ends in Detroit).
Candy, wish I could see you someday soon, just get to see your face on the board. Miss ya!
