Beauty Queens and Princesses
Jeannie...I guess we will just agree to disagree....I think if soemone wants to be a part of something like that it is their business.
I also disagree about the rape etc. As a psych nurse I know that rape is an anger against women, rather than lust. And I don't think pedifiles ever started Beauty pageants. It was people that wanted to make money.
I don't think that children should be forced to be in pageants, rather I think if they wish to be, that is theirs and their families choice. There are so many things that people choose to do that I would never do.....like camping or fishing.....I think it is crazy for me....but right for others. Who am I to choose how they spend their time and money?
I also don't think you can lay at the feet of beauty pageants....all that is bad with the disrespect of women....that started long before they were invented....and still exists in the American work world.....and many countries.
I always told my daughters..."God gave you your beautiful faces.....you did absolutley nothing to earn them, however, you can take credit for how you are inside. If you are beautiful inside, it will always show on the outside."
They have both been on "Courts" in highschool and college, elected by their peers, but never took it seriously....just saw it as fun. It has certainly not skewed their thoughts about themselves. They are both strong independent women who have a great deal of confidence in themselves.
