Energy Level

I was wondering if anyone noticed their energy level decrease as they lost weight, due to less food. About 4 years ago, I followed a very low calarie diet, that I supplemented with calcium, B12, B6 and a vitamin. I lost about 120 lbs over 10 months, so it was a fairly quick weight loss. I was eating probably 500-800 calories a day and found that although I felt better with the weight coming off, I didn't have much stamina. I found if I had to stand around for very long, I would get dizzy and have to sit down. I wasn't bad when I was walking, and could walk quite a long time. It was the standing that did me in. I also found that I would get tired easily at night. I'm really hoping that I will have more energy through WLS - I need it to keep up more of the work at home. I live with my elderly mother, who was able to do much of the work around the house up until now. We just moved, and it seems to have taken alot out of her. I want to be able to garden and look after all the house work next year.

Gosh Maggie,  I can't help too much.  I have so much more energy and stamina since surgery.  I too live with my elderly mother and am watching her slow up considerably.  The only thing I can suggest is consulting your Dr. for lab tests to see if you have a deficiency  in vitamins or minerals.  Maybe a trip to the Nutritionist would help.  Good Luck.... Hi Millie,
I haven't had the surgery yet - I was just thinking about my Mom and how I was when 4 years ago I lost weight following another diet plan. I just hope that I won't have the same problems this time and was interested in what others have found. The fact that you have more energy and stamina is encouraging to me. Maggie

Maggie no lack of energy for me , it has to do with the hight protein diet we are on. dont know what everyone else says but if you study the body and the digestive system and the amount of proteins we get it is more than enough if you keep up with protein drinks. there is no way we can eat enough protein to be able to sustain ourselves, since we only get about half the protein we eat as food, that is why we HAVE to drink protein drinks made of 100% Whey PRotein. it is the only protein that our bodys after surgery can assimalate all of it. ...

Maggie....you will be amazed at how much energy you have!!

If not you are either low on iron, dehydrated or not enough (dense) protein. Follow your doctors guidelines and you will be just fine.

I was tired the first week or two after wls and because big amounts of weight were coming off, I suddenly found myself with this incredible amount of energy.  As long as you get your protein in, you should be okay.  I haven't always been good about eating enough of the healthy stuff, but I have still had energy.  Plus, you must take your vitamins to keep yourself strong.

I believe the drugs from surgery wipe you out. My energy level did not return for almost 3 months....but I was healing. That....I went back to work after two weeks and started really doing more activities during that same time. I started sleeping better at night though. Once my energy level came back, it was like never before...even when I'd lost weight before and was working out like a mad woman.

I did not need after noon naps and kept on going and going...just like the Energizer Bunny!

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!
