Jello

I know that for many of us, s/f jello is a staple all through our WLS journey.  I like it for a snack, but plain is just so "plain".  I have experimented with all kinds of "additives".  Juice, s/f soda, fruit, ff cool whip, etc.  Lately I have discovered V-8 Fusion.  I use it instead of half of the cold liquid, mix and match the flavors. It add some calories, but not much and I feel like I'm getting some fruits/veggies.  Also good, melt a little ff cream cheese in the microwave for a few seconds, and swirl it through partially set jello.  Anybody else have anything yummy they put in their's?

I've used the tropical orange with orange jello, the strawberry banana with strawberry, and pomegranate blueberry with raspberry.  All very good.

When I was a kid, I'd drink jello. I'd mix it in a big cup and add ice. By the time I got to the end, it was great! No additives.

With the DS: there is no stoma, so no stoma strictures; there are no limitations (other than volume) against drinking before, during or after meals; 80% of ingested fat is malabsorbed; 98.9% of type II diabetics are CURED of this devastating disease, with data showing stable cure over 10 years out; there is the best average weight loss and most durable (average 76% excess weight loss going out 10 years) of all of the bariatric surgeries.  That's why I had a DS!

I ate so much s/f jello prior to surgery, I can barely stand it, however, I take a 24 oz. container of LF cottage cheese and stir in two small boxes of any flavor s/f jello, then add a very small can of crushed pineapple in it's own juice and 1/2 8-ounce container of ff cool whip. It makes a good high protein snack or even a meal. There are 90 calories in 1/2 cup and 13 gm. of protein. I keep a bowl in my refrigerator all the time. Yummo!

When I use the V8 Fusion, I only replace half the cold water with it, sooo - To a BIG box that makes 4 cups of jello that adds (for the entire bowl) 120 calories, 25 g sugar, 28 g carbs and 0 fat  The 4 cups of jello itself has 80 calories.  So if you ate the entire 4 cups you would have 200 calories.  I KNOW the box says a serving size is 1/2 cup, but I always have a cup at a time or 50 calories worth.  I'll have to try the cottage cheese thing.  I've blended cottage cheese till smooth and mixed it in with my partially set jello before, but never tried it the other way.  I've blended it smooth to disquise it, my DH and grandsons said YUK when I told them I was gonna put cottage cheese in the jello.  If it is blended, they think it is cream cheese, and they eat it fine.
