Hi,  I don't post on here often but I hope you can give me some advice.  I had open DS 2 weeks ago yesterday and ever since I woke up in the recovery room I've been hot.  I don't have a fever and otherwise feel great.  I've been drinking lots of water, it's the only thing I want to drink now.

I did start having hot flashes last year (I'm 50).  Dr. L. said it's normal and will ease off.

I'm to the point of wishing it would snow!!!!!

Any hints to cool down?

I was just the opposite of you, I had a hysterectomy May 07 and had hot flashes immediately. Fast forward to January 08.... had RNY surgery and the hot flashes disappeared.......well ..........for a couple of months. I though I was "cured" of hot flashes and then about 4 months post op they returned with a vengence. They are worst now then pre-op.

Hi Mary,  This woman thing is really not fun sometimes is it!  I hope at least if I lose the extra 100lbs the overheating from carrying that around will make the hot flash easier to handle.  I'll be able to strip down to less clothing!!!

Most of us have hot flashes while in the "fast" part of the WLS journey.  Remember estorgen is stored in fat, so while fat is burning so is the estrogen. After my hyst at age 39 I was on premarin, had blood clots and had to stop that after 10 years. started with hot flashes then, WLS increased and intensified them, now I am pretty much done losing, still have them but not nearly as bad or as often.  Think of it this way (not that it helps at all!)  Hot flashes are there to make you realize you are burning fatty fuiel!  LOL!

It sounds to me like you are having the plain old fashion hot flashes.  I still, and it's been years since menopause started and ended and since my hysterectomy, have an occasional flash. Someone said that we store hormones in our fat, I don't know if that is true but it makes since, and that as we lose weight the hormones are released and mess with us.  But, I have hot flashes some times and I think it's just that we are women and it's not enough that we have to give birth and raise our spawn and put up with the whinney men that we attach ourselves too, no, we have to bleed every month for three to five days and when we just get used to that, we have to have them get all irregular and then we have to sweat and turn beet red and hope no one notices....do I sound bitter. LOL

Thanks for the laugh!!!

The idea of burning fat when you have a hot flash at least makes them a little more bearable.  Then when I lose weight I'll be more likely to wear less.
