The Beach and Us

Hi Peg,

I'll be cruising on the Holland America Oosterdam with a couple of girlfriends that I used to teach with. Not positive where we set sail from but probably the area you're talking about. We'll spend two nights in San Diego prior to the Nov 1 cruise and one night following on Nov 8. That will give us a couple of days  which isn't nearly enough to enjoy the San Diego area. Melodyrose joined us for a short time too. Ruth was our hostess. Don't hear anything from her anymore. Janet W twisted our arms and Nancy B and I followed her on the little red train for a wonderful Sunday morning in Tijuana. . . Many fond memories.

Sharing your day at the beach makes me yearn for the sand, salty air, and most of all the tranquilizing sound of the waves lapping on the shore. I can spend hours walking along the beach searching for agates and shells.

I'll post a couple of current pics of the house in progress on my profile. It's really coming along. This weekend they have insulated and added the stacked stone on the front.

O'My  Word Karen, I thought you were building a small cabin in the woods. That is one big beautiful home.  Did all the trees get cleared off the property , or are you on the Plains. I love the over look at the (back)  Do you have the Girls Room all set up in your mind.  To cool Granny.

Thank you for sending the pic's.  The smiles are still on my face from seeing your babies, two and four legged.Hugs , Peg

Peg, You're in high desert. . . I'm in low desert. People think "Evergreen State"  NOT! southeastern Washington. We're along the Columbia River just a couple of hundred feet above sea level and average 6-8 inches of percipitation per YEAR. Only trees you'll find here are petrified (!) or have been planted and watered daily.  Without irrigation from the rivers our orchards, lawns, and vineyards would be non existant.

The house isn't nearly as big as it looks.  There's a lot of rafter space. . . 1800 sq ft. on main level with a bonus room above the garage for Clara and Hannah (and their mom and dad). Ended up with a 10 ft crawl space under the house that we didn't know would happen so paved that area too. Couldn't see wasting that much space. We call it the big storage room, but figure it could be finished some day. We're roughing in plumbing and wiring for "someday." or someone else to finish.

It's been a lot of fun and is really coming along now. I'm so glad that we're out of our old home and that money is in the bank. One less thing to worry about. I'm kind of liking this apartment living. No lawn work, a gym, a pool, very little space to clean!

Low Desert in Washington, I would never have quessed.  Will you be planting trees for the Babies?  Maybe plant some now so the trees will be big enough for the girls to climb when they get older. A tree house would be a super place to sit back and dream in. Sending Joy to you and yours, Peg

Hey , My other sister in Red.  Fly on out , we will catch you when you land.  Let your brain tell your body you need a west coast vacation.  Hey, You can come with Candy when she retires in 2010 and we will all fly across the big pond to see our Karen. So ya think you might be up for that.   Got to start saving our green back dollars,  Karen has the beach for us to sit on , but we need to have the pennies for poi.  Did I get you thinking about it, I did didn't I. Come on , YOU can do it. Spred your wings sweet girl.  Hugs dear one, Peg

Such a wonderful description of a memorable day!  I could "see" the whole thing.  Thanks for describing your day for us.  I love Coronado and San Diego.   The California coast is magic, isn't it?

Thanks Evelyn,  I do love to write ( Story).  The spelling is iffy, the puctuation is allways suspect, but the stories come from my heart.  Peg

I was born and raised in Orange County, Newport Beach and that area... so your post made me homesick!

I am 53 years old now, and still hurry to the sand when I go to the beach and run the sand through my fingers... nothing has diminished the love I have for the ocean.

What a great day you had...

Mark, I saw lots of Stud Muffins on that beach.......Are you sure you didn't visit San Diego that afternoon....heehee .  Sorry brother, my silly half check's in every once and a while.

I was born down in the Imperial Valley Desert, El Cento , way back in (46).  The first time I saw the Sea was when I was 7-8.  I became a water girl from that time on.  I too treasure the ocean and make it to the Sea as often as I can. Peg
