Important reminder abou****er.....

Aloha OFFers....

Yesterday I had a situation that gave me a big kick in the pants about one of the golden rules after WLS...DRINK LOTS OF WATER!

I had gone to Kaiser surgery dept. for checkup on a bump on my leg, (no problem) and while nurse was taking my BP and pulse, she said, "Your pulse is 40.......that's very low...are you dehydrated?" On the computer screen was a warning "Urgent..." I told her I'd been working a new job and even though I had a water bottle with me, I hadn't been drinking constantly like I usually do. She said it is CRUCIAL that WLS people especially gets tons of liquids......or there can be dire results...like a trip to the ER. I went back to my office and drank two bottles of water in about two hours....and kept drinking the rest of the day. Uh, yes, peeing, too...Ha!

It is easy, especially for those of us who are at goal, to get slack on following the rules. I was lucky that I got a reminder that didn't put me in the ER, and I just had to pass that along to all of you just in case you are not remembering to keep drinking...just do it!

So, with that said....off I go to work with BIG BOTTLE of water in hand!!

Thanks for the reminder, I, too, keep the bottle by my side, but some days I do better than others, which is funny since I used to love drinking water and now it's harder to swallow. . .anyway, very seldom do I get less than 48 ounces in, but I know we're supposed to have a minimum of 64 and an extra for each cup of caffienated coffee/tea, which has cut my coffee consumption to no more than 2 cups a day of the regular kind, have a great day! Hugs, Laureen

Aloha Laureen........I'd forgotten the thing about the coffee being a diuretic. Those two mugs I have in the morning probably had a lot to do with my getting such a low BP for the 11:00 appointment.

So many things to remember. Thanks for sharing.

Water has become a big part of my normal work day routine since I have a tendency to water load while I'm in the gym each morning..... I typically drink between 75 and 100 ozs of water before 5 AM..... on the weekends I have to really work at it more because I don't have a set routine..... Thanks for the great reminder!

Wow...and wow!! 75 to 100 oz. before 5 a.m.!! I can't even imagine that, but it sounds like you are needing for all the exercise. Amazing how different we are in our need for, and use of, liquids.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Karen for the great reminder!  Especially now with the hot weather we need even more. I make sure I am constantly drinking....It is easy for me because I have always been a huge water drinker all my life. The only time I don't drink is during my meals and one hour after. I probably should cut back on the Crystal Light some and have a few more jus****ers. I love Crystal Light....so many great flavors!! Hugs....connie d

Aloha Connie.....You are so lucky that you LOVE water and crystal light. I just can't seem to get into the crystal light anymore...and it's pure water for me almost always. But, hey, whatever works it what we do!!

I was so lucky to have gotten hit over the head with a velvet club and now I will NOT be forgetting to get in my water.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the reminder.  I've been failing water consumption a lot lately.  George is usually my watchdog, but with his working OT lately, I'm on my own.  So low pulse is an indicator of dehydration, I didn't know that. Debbie

Aloha Debbie...I was surprised to find that low pulse was sometimes caused by dehydration, too. We just keep learning about this process don't we!!

You keep drinking, too!! We need you around here.

Aloha nui loa,
