Something worth sharing. . .

Sometimes two minuses make a plus. --Edith Shannon What appears to be a problem sometimes turns out to be a most beneficial cir****tance. We live only in the present, and it generally takes the perspective of hindsight to get the full meaning of an event. Over the years, we have learned that some of our best lessons actually caused us pain while we were in their clutches. What a relief to be able to see, now, that they had their silver lining. This principle still holds true. We have had a lot of years to learn to take our experiences in stride, giving them no more weight than they deserve. But it's easy to forget that it's the accumulation of them all that defines who we are. The lost jobs, the friends who left, the hurdles in a marriage all played their part in the people we've become today. We are who we need to be right now. I can't let a setback set me back today. I am evolving right on schedule.

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* YES, YES, YES, I'm so glad you shared this bit of wisdom. I sure needed it today. **** I saw my Ex and his new wife at my grandson's baptism yesterday. Hard to sit in church and wonder what the heck happened. Millie

Thanks so much for sharing this with us, Laureen, I think that I needed this today. So.....nothing happens in this life by mistake. It is all devine intervention. I know that all the good things that I have done, and all the mistakes that I have made makes me the person I am today. I am on the whole glad I am the person who I am today. If there is something that I want to add or take away it is something that I can work on.

I took my 4 year old grandson to see "Kung Fu Panda" last week and there was an excellent line that was quoted to the Panda during the movie that went something like this: Do not worry about the past, because you can't change it. Don't worry about the future because you can't control it. Enjoy today because it is a gift.... that's why they call it the Present. As I was watching this child's movie, I thought how profound and that I had never heard this said quite this way before. I've thought it about it often since then. Since my WLS last October (total loss 105 pounds --- under my goal weight) plus having a total hip replacement 2 months ago and now being able to walk without a cane again, I know just what the master was teaching the panda. I truly know that today is a gift and I think about this every morning when I take my walk before work. I'm truly grateful to be able to walk each and every step. A couple of years ago I was looking at being an obese woman in a wheel chair before I began this journey. Loving life once again.

Reading your post about a total hip replacement.  I can sure relate to taking steps without pain.  My mom spent the last 20 years of her life in pain and in a wheelchair.  I was headed down that path.  I am so thankful for the WLS and also for the orthopedic surgeon that did the hip replacements on me even though I was obese.
