Doctor wants me to change the type of surgery
I went back to the heart doctor on Friday and he said I should change my surgery from RNY to the Lap Band. He seems to think my heart can tolerate this better. He said it wasn't so invasice (SP) I have already paid almost five hundred dollars to my wls (he doesn't do lap band) and a date set for July 1st. He would not clear me for the rny but, refured (SP) me to a surgeon that does the lap band. Does any one have any input on the Lap Band? Thanks Hugs Sharon Don't know what I would do without you guys on this board every time something happens the first thing I think of is getting home and telling my friends on the OH Board.
What about getting a sleeve? VSG was first conceived as a two-stage operation for people who were too sick to get bypass. It sounds perfect for you.

For some reason I got onto this conversation with the wls nurse when I went to see her the other day. Now I know why, to put my 2 cents in.
Karen, my wls nurse mentioned that the rny is most of the weight loss in the beginning and the lap band is a more steady weight loss over a longer period of time. She said that each one is great and it just depends on what someone is wanting.
I hope this helps a bit, and thanks for letting me putting in my 2 cents worth.
I've had great success and no problems with the lap-band. It is a good weight loss tool if you are willing to accept slower weight loss (average is 1-2 lbs/week) and the necessity for fills (mine are quick, easy, and painless). And if that's the procedure your heart doctor is most comfortable with, you're probably better off with it in the long run.
If you sign a release form, the first (RNY) surgeon is legally obliged to share your medical records with the other (band) surgeon. Hopefully that way you can avoid repeating some/all of the pre-op tests and evaluations.
