I am about 9 days out and continue to notice what feels like a firm encapsulated lump right under my larger lower left incision (just left of bellybutton).  Feels like what I know a hematoma would feel like.  No pain/tenderness, no fever.  I think this would be normal but just wanted to check to see if others who had a lap RNY had a similar experience.  I noticed it with my first shower at home last week. ~~~ Pam

Pam, I felt the same sort of lump and, as a matter of fact it was that same place. . .  it is now, just a scar. . .  but if it's a matter of concern, you should always call your surgeon's office, as mine rather have questions asked than not. Take care, Laureen

Pam, No clue here but I agree with Laureen - call your surgeon.  My surgeon encourages phone calls with any concern and nothing is too minor. He says not to wait until it becomes a major problem. If it is nothing. you will have peace of mind. That's important during your recovery too. Annette

The others gave you good advice.  It's probably just scar tissue, but it's best to check in with your surgeon. Jean

Thanks to all of you for your responses.  I did put the question to the surgeon's office.  The NP responded and thought it was part of normal healing process as long as there wasn't pain or fever and that the "lump" should soften over the next few weeks.  She said it is most likely "focal edema".  ~~~ Pam
