Hello everyone.  I think last time I visited the over 50 forum I was waiting to hear if I would get surgery.  Well I am happy to say that I am having the VSG next month, on July 29th.  I live in Canada and will be travelling to the Barix Clinic in Michigan to have my surgery.  I am really happy that things are finally starting to fall into place.  I was originally asking for the Lap RNY, and had received approval from my insurance here, but after some consultations about me and a blood disorder that I have, the surgeon decided that the best thing for me was to have the VSG.  I had to go back to the insurance and get approval for that, and once that came in, they booked me.

I am a very happy camper.  People ask me if I am nervous and I say no, just excited and anxious.  I am a teeny bit worried about how I will feel after the surgery, will I heal fast, will I recuperate without a hitch...these are my main concerns.  I think being on the other side of 60 is what makes me worry a tad more as I know a younger patient would do better.

I love reading all the success stories of the over 50 crowd.  I am 61 now, so reading how well you have done is wonderful.  Congratulations to all of you, you inspire a newbie like me. Take care...Linda

*~*~*~*~*~*~* C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S *~*~*~*~*~*~* Ain't Life Grand ... ... Success story: I just had my 3 month check ups ... Nut, surgeon and yesterday my PCP... I think my PCP would have danced if possible, he was very pleased with my progress. ALL of my labs came back with sterling results. I followed the food guidelines and took great care to follow all instructions to the T and it paid off. I didn't have a lot of issues before surgery so that was a plus for me too. I'm down 62# from my highest and 52# since surgery. I lose about 2# a week. Maybe slow for some but I'm pleased with it. Wishing you the greatest success. Milie

Linda, congratulations on your date of your new and very improved life. I am keeping you in my prayers for a uneventful surgery and a speedy and pain free recovery. I am keeping you medical staff in my prayers too, that they have knowledge and compassion. Please keep us posted on how things are going for you and we hope that we see you back on a regular basis.

Congratulations Linda on getting a surgery date. Be sure to post and let us know how things are going.   I'm fairly new too and haven't had surgery yet, still meeting the insurance co requirements.  Have a great day, Paulette

I am over 60 and five weeks out from my lap DS surgery.  In reading the boards, I seem to be healing at the same rate as everyone else and I'm finally feeling pretty good.  I've lost about 33 pounds and I'm having a phone consult with my doctor in San Francisco on Wednesday and a PCP appointment on the 30th.  So far no complaints except I get a little cranky trying to get all my protein down!  Part of the DS is the VSG and the best advice I've read is to sip and walk after surgery, it promotes healing that tiny new stomach.  Congratulations on getting your date.  You'll be on the losers bench in no time!

Linda, Congratulations on getting your date and I'm sure you will do just fine!   I just want to let you know, I went to Barix in Langhorne, PA, they are a first rate facility and I imagine the one in Michigan is the same.

Good luck and the time between now and then will fly by!

Laureen
