Slips and Sleeves

Good morning my lovelies. I have a rant and a question for you. First of all, what's happened to modesty in clothing?  I've been searching for the right thing to wear to the Niece's wedding on 7/4...has to be just right since it will be my "grand debut" back home (never mind the bride, it's all about me  hehehe).  So I found an adorable skirt on sale, and I mean a BIG sale...$80 marked down to $17.  It's beautiful cream colored with a very scattered black floral print which I planned to wear with a 3/4 sleeved lightweight black sweater.  The problem is is that you can see right through the skirt...two sticks for legs with about a 4 inch gap between them. NOT the part of the debut I want to debut, if you know what I mean. Off I go to find a slip. Now, ladies, is this too much to ask??  A simple, basic 1/2 slip that a gal can wear to maintain a little modesty. Do you think I can find one?? Not on your life. Not at Penney's, Kohl's, or TJ Maxx.  But in the process to find the elusive slip I found a darling dress, also on sale that would be very appropriate for an outdoor summer wedding. Kind of a Hawaiian print (thinking of Karen here) with lots of teal and sapphire blues in it. Great color, form fitting SLEEVELESS. Which brings me to the question:  Who wears sleeveless tops/dresses?  I've modeled the dress in front of co-workers and DIL who say I'm too hard on myself. Gary says I need to have more confidence in myself.  It's not like I have bat wings, just wrinkling  "great grandma" arms. If I can manage to not move my arms and keep them at my side, I'll look great!  Why am I so vain about this? Honestly, this body image thing is nuts.  I didn't have a problem wearing sleeveless when I was 240 lbs, why now? I want to be brave and just say "it is what it is", but I'm nervous. Everyone at the wedding that I know (who cares about the grooms family!) knows I've had surgery, so God knows  what I'm worried about. Don't even get me started about the possibility of buying a bathing suit to swim in the SIL's pool!!!  That in itself brings on all new troubles  Love to you all

Go sleevelesss, you've earned it! Seriously, I feel your pain... I have always hated my arms - even when I was a thin teenager, but after the surgery - I really wasn't happy.  If  you don't have batwings, then go for it. I am sure you are much harder on yourself than anyone else will be.  Enjoy yourself - everyone will be raving over the new you and no one will think you have great grandma arms. Thanks Lou,  I knew I'd get supportive responses here.  I never thought much about my arms before I lost weight, they were arms.  They're still arms, so what's the big deal?  I need therapy

Susan, my dear, you need to do what makes YOU happy and feel good about yourself. What makes you feel good?  If you need  a slip for some reason the other day I was looking around at nothing in particular at Wal Mart and found half slips there. I never knew they had them. At my Wal Mart they were by the bras and the girdle thingies. Don't you love my language? haha You must be true to yourself and do what you are comfortable doing. Be nice to yourself too. You deserve that!

It's not what you gather, but what you scatter
that tells what kind of life you have lived.

Good ol' Wally World.  I'll check there when I go grocery shopping.  If I can find one I'll take the skirt  AND the dress and decide when I get there. Yes, I love your language, it's the same as minemmLOL

Susan, I have never worn slips until now. they made me too hot. The only reason I wear one now is for added layering and warmth. Didn't have to shop for it either. My friend bought one and it was too small for her. Now I want to look and see where they are sold. I wear sleeveless, low cut, and my arms look like melted candles. Arms HELL, the entire body has melted into a pool of skin. Vanity, modesty, oh how it can drive us insane. People are going to be so overwhelmed with your weight loss and beautiful smile that they will never notice any self-perceived imperfection. Yup, never mind about the bride and groom, this day is going to be all about YOU!!  3D Prom Queen

I just told Brenda that if I can find a slip I'll take the skirt and the dress!!  What the heck, our clothes are so small they don't weigh a thing.  Have to leave room to bring home the clothes I buy there. No Macy's or Nordstrom's here, so I can't wait to go shop where I never really could before WLS . Darn airlines though, might have to ship some things instead of paying the airline company for a second bag.  That just chaps my hide!! Melted candles.....that's what I told my plastic surgeon I thought my face looked like.  A candle on the table at an Italian restaurant.  Describes my arms and thighs to a tee! Love ya

Yesterday, I saw slips at Macy's.  I can't find a long half slip with slits on both sides.  It used to be easy to find them.

Thanks for the tip. If I can't find one here, I'll look at Macy's when I get to SD. Thanks!  Oh, I'll keep an eye out for a long slip while I'm at it.

So with all the money that you saved, you go visit a tailor.  A lining is just the thing! A tailor may also be able to figure out a solution for the "arm problem."  Maybe some lace sleeves, perhaps a bolero, a rufflet, etc.  It if bothers you, it bothers you.   Both are small prices to pay for a little confidence boost.  I don't blame you one single bit! Have fun!
