X-Post: I'm home
I have to admit, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I had my surgery at UCSF. Things moved on time and everyone was very nice and professional. I waited about a 1/2 hour in the surgical waiting area. Then up to Pre-Op. Saw my surgeon and the anesthesia folks. Anesthesia put the IV in. Then to the OR. After getting settled there, they gave me some Verced which relaxed me so I totally didn't feel them put in the arterial line (not everyone needs this). Then soon I was asleep and then awake. Had a few hours of a very sore throat from the ET tube but it went away pretty quickly. I did have some excruciating pain when I got into the Recovery Room. They loaded me up with pain meds but it didn't seem to have any affect. Finally one of the nurses said, lets try this. She changed my position in the bed and poof that horrible pain went away. It was probably air. Spent about 2 hours in Recovery and then to my room. While in Recovery, they set me up with a PCA (patient controlled analgesia so I could zap myself regularly to deal with the pain. Had that until the next morning when I went on oral Loritab (basically liquid vicodin). I was very lucky as I ended up with a private room on a newly remodeled unit. It was kind of funny but I had a hugh LCD TV - larger than my TV at home. That was a surprise although I didn't even turn it on until last night. All in all I was happy with the hospital experience. ~~~ Pam
