Am I Done Losing Weight?

I'm going to see my surgeon tomorrow for my monthly check-up and this is one of the questions I'm going to ask him.  When I saw him 2 mos. ago, he said confidently, "At this rate, we're going to get you to a normal BMI."  And that's what my goal has been all along: a "normal" BMI at 130 lbs.  Since Dr. Argotte made that remark, I've lost 7 lbs and gained back 2 lbs.  My restriction is the best it's ever been so I definitely don't need another fill.  My eat-more-to-lose-more experiment didn't work.  I've tried every trick I know to lose these last few pounds, but now I'm wondering if maybe my body is just done losing weight.  I feel great and am pretty happy with the way I look.  Here I am at 9 mos post-op: Not bad for 54 yrs old, huh? I'm no quitter and I sure can't encourage y'all to get to your goals when I can't get to mine, but sometimes I wonder why I'm obsessing about this. What do you think? Jean

Don't know what to tell you, but you look pretty good. I will probably never be at a normal BMI, but I'm happy where I'm at. Maybe if you just quit trying the "tricks" and let it be, it might happen. Sometimes our bodies know where they want to fall regardless of where we want them to be.

Jean, You look fantastic.  You are an inspiration to me a fellow lap bander.  I had a goal of 25 more lbs. to lose.  I'm at my doctors goal right now.  But I am still not out of the obese range.  Losing at a rate of 1 to 2 lbs. every couple of weeks.  Really slow going.  But I cling to the fact I am NOT GAINING. As long as your happy I think that's all that matters. Bev

Jean, If you're happy, then you are the only person who needs to be pleased!  I think you look a fantastic 54.  Think back to where you were when you began this journey, was it last October(?) and how far you've come and what you've accomplished, you've become a new you.  You are there.  Now you just have to recognize it.  In 9 months you've gotten a whole new mindset, a regular exercise routine and a resolve to never go back.  How cool is that? I cannot wait for the day. Marti in San Jose

Jean....you look fabulous!! The only think missing is your smile. You have done a wonderful job using your tool. You should be very proud of yourself. I am proud of you!! Dig out the old pics of yourself....pics don't lie!! I was told when our bodies are where they want to be we will quit losing. I am not sure if I entirely believe it but maybe it is true. My body doesn't want to go any further.....at least not for right now.  Hugs, connie d

My freind Beth in Nebraska is a bander. She lost lots of weight and continued for some time. I think she is about 5 or 6 years post op now.......everyone is different and these procedures work on everyone in a different way..... Your still pretty early post op..... Congrats on the weight you have lost....

Jean, I can't offer you any advice but I can say that you look great.  My thought is that If as you say "I feel great and am pretty happy with the way I look. " why worry about numbers?  Your health and body image are more important than BMI or what the scale says.  BMI and wt are not an exact science. Of course, you have to remember this is coming from someone who is preop. (This opinion is subject to change once the poster has had her surgery and starts losing wt!)

Jean, You look great!  I hope to get where you're at by the time I am at my 1 year surgervisary. Hugs, Laureen

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen
