First time in a forum on OH
Hi! I am a 59-year-old, 3 months (almost) post-op. I like the idea of being able to chat with the over 50 crowd. I can't figue out how to set up the weight tracker but I am now down 49 pounds. This surgery is the answer: no more yo-yo dieting! I'm exercising regularly at the gym, playing tennis, etc. Retired this June so plenty of time to exercise! Any clues on setting up he weight tracker?
Cely
Thanks - I did figure it out. I do like to see the chart and see the line going down....but the journey is a trip! I have felt well 99% of the time and it really is about good health. A person in our support group said she doesn't even weigh herself because to her it is all about becoming healthy, not about losing the weight. I found that an interesting perspective. You are almost two years out -- what has the biggest challenge been?
Interesting question......it would be intersting to see what others think about that.....perhaps the toughest thing for me has been adjusting to living with my pouch.
It is tempermental someimes and I just have to "go with the flow"....sometimes it just fills up so fast...other times you can't eat what you have eaten before easily........also getting the protein in first is difficult, because it is sure not what you crave...it's just what you need. Others times I just have to gag myself and get the stuff [mostly liquid] up in order to be comfortable at all. Sometimes I need to stretch out to avoid pain. we are not normal anymore and we can't eat and behave like everyone else.
What has been difficult for you.

I think my biggest challenge has been not drinking alcohol. I didn't drink a lot anyway but when I go out I like to have a good dirty martini.
I haven't been sick but I did dump once when I ate too fast. I thnk I am a little bored with food choices. I find I would rather dring ice water than eat! But I know I have to, so I do.
Welcome Carol.
Sounds like you are doing very well and feeling good.
At first it was a challenge learning this new life style of eating, drinking and exercising. But now it is almost second nature. Still takes planning.
Biggest Challenge: maintenance. This is another time of learning how to eat correctly.
Nice to meet you. Come back often.

Hello Cely and Welcome to OFF!!
Glad you decided to join us. This this board has the nicest group of people. It feels like home!!
My biggest challenge is maintaining....I think it is hard to find that right balance.
I am very happy that I had this surgery. No more high blood pressure, acid reflux or diabetes. I feel wonderful!! I do not get sick nor have I dumped. I know what I need to eat and I eat it. I am so much healthier and happier now!!
I will be watching to hear more about your journey.
Hugs, connie d
Welcome Cely! I am 58 and have my RNY tomorrow afternoon. I am actually looking forward to learning about the challenges. I guess my first one is getting through tomorrow as comfortably as possible. This group has been very supportive and full of great information. I think you'll like it here. ~~~ Pam
Cely, your stats are similar to mine. I'm 59 and three months out. I've lost 50 pounds since surgery and 60 pounds overall. I can't figure out the weight tracker or the avatar either. ~ ~ ~ ~ WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF OFF ~ ~ ~ A great place of wonderful people willing to help with whatever is going on in your life. Millie
