Pre-Menopause & Post OP Lap Band Question

Hello,  I'm new to this board so possibly this has been addressed before, but....I was wondering if anyone else has or is experiencing something like this...My periods are still regular (I'm 51) but the flow had gotten lighter, other than maybe one day of heavy with cramping.  I had my surgery on 4/14/08 and since then I've had some spotting and cramping in between, also the periods I've had so far post op have been much heavier and longer.   Could the post-surgery high protein diet be affecting things?  Is there a hormonal change that happens post-op?  Or am I just experiencing the symptoms of pre-menopause?   I may give my GYN a call if the next one is the same, but in the meantime....any thoughts? Thanks!

If you haven't been to your gynecologist in the last year I would definitely make an appointment.  I put off going thinking I was peri-menopausal and it turned out to be something else.  Don't try to self diagnose in this area.  Get it checked out if it happens again. I hope all goes well and it turns out to be nothing. Good luck, Bev

Hi Bev, Actually I had my annual check up and mammogram not too long before my surgery.  But I'll definitely contact them if next time is bad again. Thanks! Mary

Oh that's good.  Then it's probably your diet change.  I hope the cramps aren't too bad. Take care, Bev To everyone else:  Get your yearly Gynocologist check-ups.  Don't have the doctor say the words "It would have been better if we caught it earlier." Bev

Thanks.  It's been seven years with no cancer detected.  (The docs will never say the phrase your cancer free.)  I waited three years with flip floppy menstrual cycle and cramps thinking is was peri-menopausal.  By the time I went (and only because the cramps were so bad)  I had stage II uterine and cervical cancer.  It took two operations, radiation and six months fighting to learn my lesson the hard way.   Thank God I had a good gynecological oncologist, short-term disability and good major medical insurance.  Now I run to the gyno if there is anything unusual going on. Take care, Bev

Hello and WELCOME to OFF (Over Fifty Forum). This is a great place to come to for information, support and friendship. Hope you like it here as much as I do. There are many hormonal changes with this surgery. Ff this situation happens again my suggestion would to seek your doctors advice. Let us know how you are doing. Hugs, connie d
